This delicious meal of roasted turkey (on the grill) with cranberry sauce & pasta salad cost $2.18. The joke in our house is “how much did this meal cost”. Usually I am anywhere from $5.00 – $8.00 for the meal so when I figured out that it was $2.18 I had to do my little happy dance. Now don’t forget I am feeding 4 grown people (not little kids) and my son eats for 2 sometimes 3. This meal feed us all and there were some leftovers for lunch. I am also making soup with the rest. Here is how it worked out:

Turkey $0.00 free during the Easter holiday deal at ShopRite
Wacky Mac pasta: $.49 just bought them at Pathmark
Olive Oil: $.05
Broccoli: $.50 I used frozen broccoli I had gotten on sale at ShopRite a month ago
Tomatoes: $.89 I got them at ShopRite in the reduced price section
Cranberry sauce: $.50 I had purchased at Aldis
Total: $2.18 for all 4

If you have never cooked your turkey on the barbecue grill you should. It was delicious and my husband thinks he is now Bobby Flay. I do have to give him credit though…he cooked it perfectly!

Want to cook like Bobby Flay too? Check out this book. I think I might get my hubby this for father’s day.

What’s For Dinner?

by Cindy on May 18, 2009

Toward the end of this past week my menu went a little off from what I had planned but we wound up having the most delicious roasted Turkey today that my hubby cooked on the new charcoal Weber grill we got. Boy was it delicious. This week’s menu took a lot of thought and planning. You will also see some repeats from this past week that we never had. We have baseball games everyday after school and my oldest will be home from college for a few days mid week so I want to make sure I am making meals that are quick and easy. Here is what I have planned:
Monday: Stir Fried Beef & Peppers over Rice (we cooked a twin pack of london broil on the grill on Saturday and I saved 1 of them to use in the stir fry.

Tuesday: Thirty Minute Chili with Cornbread

Wednesday: Macaroni & Homemade gravy & meatballs

Thursday: Chicken on the grill, pasta salad

Friday: Take out pizza

Saturday: Sliders (my son has been asking me to make these), sweet potato fries, veggies or salad

Sunday: ???? Not sure yet

I am making turkey soup out of the turkey we ate tonight. I might use some for lunches this week and freeze the rest for another day.

What are you cooking this week? Any good recipes to share?

Did You Get Everything?

by Cindy on May 17, 2009

Before you put all those newspapers in the recycling bin, check to see if you got everything. I was so happy to see those Lowes coupons. My newspaper had $10 of $50 and $25 off $250. Since I have 4 newspapers I now have 4 sets of coupons. I don’t have a Lowes close to me but Home Depot takes competitor coupons as long as they are the actual coupon and not computer printed. Now I can go out and finish buying my flowers, mulch, charcoal, lawn feed, etc and use my coupons. Also make sure you clip the coupons from Parade magazine. There was one in there for $1/1 Healthy Ones lunch meat. And as always, keep those restuarant coupons. We love Chilis.

Would love to hear about your savings this weekend. Leave a note and let us know how you did.
