Barnes & Noble Clearance Sale

by Cindy on June 30, 2009

Summer Clearance - Save 50% or more!

My friend Beth asked me today if I found any good deals at Barnes & Noble. Well I think I have. Barnes & Noble currently has savings of 50% or more on thousands of books in their Summer Clearance Sale. I checked it out and they weren’t kidding. They have Harlan Coben, The Woods, which sells for $26.95 on sale for $5.39. I’d say that is more than 50% off. Click the banner above to find some great deals.
And by the way, I have read that Harlan Coben book and it is a very good book.

Crunching Numbers June

by Cindy on June 30, 2009

So June is now over and it’s time for me to figure out how I did for the month. If you remember, I started keeping track in March. Previously my grocery bill used to be $225-$275 each week. I used to take advantage of some coupons that I would cut from the one insert I had from that week.

Here are my current numbers since I started keeping track in March:

March:
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $567.83
Avg $128.24 per week

April:
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $380.57
Avg $95.14 per week

May:
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $425.02
Avg $106.25 per week

June:
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $323.34
Avg $80.84 per week

My goal has been to be at $75/week. I have been very close to that except for the first week of June which is why my average is slightly higher. However I am so excited at my progress. Don’t forget, I am feeding 4 grown people, my husband and myself, my 16 year old 6’3″ (I want to gain weight for football) son, and my 19 year old daughter (home from college) who has decided that frugal is a good thing and eats every meal at home.
For the last 4 months I have saved over $2200. That is over $569 each month. Click here to see how I got started using coupons and saving.
If you are ready to get started using coupons, check out my beginner series here.

My sister-in-law, Jodi, has informed me that today and tomorrow Lord & Taylor is giving away $15 gift cards to the first 200 people. It’s obviously too late for today as I am sure that 200 people have come through their doors already but there is always tomorrow morning. Jodi went this morning and got her gift card and bought a “free” dress for my niece. The only thing is you have to use the gift card by tomorrow. Not a problem for me!
So get your 20% off coupon (hey we have to squeak out every penny we can) and head over to your Lord & Taylor first thing in the morning. Go here to see if there is a Lord & Taylor near you.
Sounds like a pretty awesome deal to me.

Thanks Jodi!

Update: I just want to clarify to all my email subscribers that this was for Monday & Tuesday. I had posted it on Monday night but you didn’t get it until Tuesday night as it went up to late to catch the Monday night emails. I hope you all got your giftcards. I used mine up tonight (Tues) and spent $.75. I have to admit that it is hard to find something for $15 in Lord & Taylor but I managed. If I told you what I got you would all laugh at me (my kids did) so let’s just say I spent $15.75 and paid $.75 oop. Enough said :)

Reader’s Digest As Low As $5 For 1 Year

by Cindy on June 29, 2009

When I was growing up there was always a Reader’s Digest in our bathroom (okay, maybe that’s more then you needed to know). But really, we always had them in our house. When my husband and I first got married, I ordered a subscription because I felt like I needed to read it. It was so much apart of my youth. Unfortunately I let the subscription run out. I might just get it again since you can get it for as low as $5 for 1 year. That’s a pretty good price if you ask me.

What’s For Dinner?

by Cindy on June 29, 2009

Last week I just listed the meals I was planning on having during the week and I think that worked well for me. Sometimes, in this house, plans change in an instant (usually thanks to my son Patrick). So, having a list of meals I know I have available to choose from really helps but keeps me flexible. So here is our plan for this week.

Remember that everything we are preparing for the week may not necessarily be something that I bought this week. I have quick a stockpile in my pantry and freezers that I can choose from.

Here is our flexible dinner menu:

  • Hot Dogs, Coleslaw, Beans
  • Tacos
  • Homemade Pizza (gotta use up some of that mozzarella cheese)
  • Macaroni & Sausage, salad from the garden
  • Grilled Steak, Pasta Side Dish, Veggies
  • Grilled Chicken, Rice Pilaf, Veggies
  • 30 Minute Chili w/ corn muffins (use up the leftover chopmeat, sour cream & cheese from the tacos)

Who Wants Coupons?

by Cindy on June 29, 2009

Hey guys. Since I am not doing anymore shopping before Thursday, I wanted to see if any of you would like to have my $10 off $75 or $15 off $100 coupons from Pathmark & A&P (they expire on 7/2). I have 4 for each store (8 total). The coupons are linked together so you can either use 1 (the $75 or the $100) or the other. Now remember, Pathmark will take competitor coupons so if you get the A&P coupon you can use it there. As a matter of fact, it scans like a Pathmark coupon. They do not need to enter it in as a competitor. Also, for all of you outside of this area…if your store takes competitor coupons then you can use these as well.

The first 8 people to email me at livingrichwithcoupons@gmail.com will get them. It’s that simple. The only thing that I ask of you is that you are a subscriber to my blog. Please let me know that in the email. If you are not…then please, feel free to sign up on the right sidebar before you send me the email. You can sign up to your reader service or just simply email. And don’t forget to put your name & address so I know where to send it. Thanks!

UPDATE: As of 8:00 am (Monday) there is only 1 A&P left.

Yes this shopping trip was only $1.57 I swear. How you ask….
Remember the ShopRite $40 Back Deal, well on my last shopping trip there I got $20 back to use on my next trip. This was my next trip.

When I have large coupons like that I usually try to purchase items that don’t have coupons that often or ever. Such as produce, meat, dairy, bread. Everything on the outskirts of the store. Okay, okay the potato chips were not on the outskirts but they were only $.49 after coupons and they looked so good. But everything else was and I even had a coupon for the 2 Dole Salads. So, all told, I got all this for only $1.57.
Not too shabby!

I made a second trip to Pathmark today where I spent $18.55 which brought me to a couple dollars over my budget. But it was worth it for what I saved. My savings was $68.04. On this trip I used an unusual combo of coupons that even had the nice people at my Pathmark scratching their heads. But in the end it was all good as I try my very best to be an honest coupon shopper and not try to “get away” with deals that are not legit.

First off, the 3 Reese’s Puffs cereals were on major discount as the expiration is close approaching but I know that my 2 kids will devour them within a week. I also had coupons for them which brought them down to about $.25 a box. Then I found a coupon (tearpad) on a shopping trip previously that was for $3 watermelon when you buy 2 Ball Park Franks. They were not on sale but I had a coupon for them plus they also fell into the $6 off pork when you buy Ball Park Franks & Kingsford charcoal coupon that I had. Did I lose you yet?

I also used my $5 off $15 coupon from Stop & Shop as well as a $5 off $40 Pathmark coupon. Then finally the Sorrento were on clearance, again because the expiration date is approaching, and I also had coupons for that. It was a little confusing but it worked. And I got a lot of great products for a little amount of money.

By the way, has anyone ever tried to freeze mozzarella cheese?
