To Freeze or Not To Freeze?

by Cindy on July 30, 2009

I have never been very knowledgeable about freezing food. As a matter of fact, there was a time not too long ago that I barely froze anything. Then I wised up.

I wised up because stockpiling items I had gotten at dirt cheap prices required a change to my old habits. I mean what do I do with all that mozzarella cheese I just bought?

I will tell you that when I was buying it I was asking myself, “can I freeze this because either we are eating a lot of cheese in the next 2 weeks or this is going in the freezer”. Well I did some research and sure enough you can freeze mozzarella cheese.

Some of you are saying, well of course you can freeze it, everyone knows that. But I didn’t and maybe other people don’t know as well. So I did some research and found this Cold Storage Chart. It tells you if you can freeze an item and how long you can freeze it for. What a great tool! Now I know I can freeze milk for 3 months. Never knew that before.

So guess what I’m doing with the milk I get with the FREE milk coupon.
IN THE FREEZER OF COURSE!!

Near East Coupon + Reader Submissions

by Cindy on July 30, 2009

Near East is my families favorite rice pilaf. My mother-in-law introduced me to this when I was dating my husband. Every time I would have dinner at their house she would make a couple of boxes of this rice pilaf. I liked it then and I like it now. And now my kids are hooked on it too.

Their favorite meal. Breaded chicken with rice pilaf and veggies. Yum!

I have not seen this coupon for at least 6 months so I was pretty happy when it popped up. It is only a $1/2 coupon but hey, it is better than nothing.

Go here and you can print yours.

Reader submissions:

Home Solution News: Lots of great coupons to print
Old English Furniture Polish
Sundown Vitamins: Works great with the 1/2 off sale at ShopRite going on now.
Tyson Skillet Creations
Radio Shack Trade In Program: Turn your old gadgets into green.

New Coupon Book Available 8/1 At CVS

by Cindy on July 30, 2009

Starting on 8/1 (that would be Saturday) there is suppose to be a new coupon book available at CVS. This coupon book is part of the CVS Pharmacy new Autofill program. The book will be filled with lots of CVS coupons which of course can be stacked with manufacturer coupons and/or Extra Care Rewards for great savings. The coupons in the book will be:

* (2) $4 off $20 purchase coupons
* $4 off $20 Diet or Nutrition products coupon
* $4 off $20 Facial Skin products coupon
* $2 off $10 Vitamin purchase coupon
* $2 off $10 Allergy products coupon
* $2 off $10 Oral Care products coupon
* $3 off $12 Eye Care products coupon

Most likely these books will be located by the pharmacy, however you may have to inquire at the pharmacy about there Autofill program in order to receive the book.

For me, this is the only way I can get a $4 off $20 coupon as I NEVER get them printing from the price check machine. In case you are unfamiliar with the price check machine, you can scan your CVS card at the red price check machine and out the side will print coupons.

An innocent walk through Walgreens lands an awesome deal.

So I’m in the parking lot to go into another store and I was drawn into Walgreens only to look around. I missed Walgreens, I hadn’t been there in weeks. Yes that’s right, weeks. Why, well simply because there has been nothing there that has made me grab my keys and run out the door yelling, “great deal at Walgreens, I’ll be back in a minute”. Nope nothing at all.

So I figured while I was in the parking lot I would visit my old friend Walgreens. Look around at what was on sale and see if there were any coupon tearpads waiting for my little fingers to grab 1..okay 2…okay 3..alright, as many as I can tear off. (You didn’t hear that from me).

Well sitting on the top shelf of the clearance rack was this poor Wahl hair clipper. Normally I would just look at the price and put it down but this time I heard the voice of my son, “Mom, just get a hair clipper and I won’t have to go to the barber so much.” He has been saying that for the past month and I just did my, yeah, okay kinda of answer. I mean really, I don’t know how to use one of those and I certainly wasn’t going to waste, what, $20/$30 on it and then it just sits in the closet.

This time the poor Wahl hair clipper was in luck. My son’s voice made me grab it and bring it over to the counter to see how much it was. $5.59 she said. $5.59? That is so cheap. Okay I’ll take it. Oh but wait, maybe I have coupons. Hmm, could I have a coupon for a Wahl hair clipper? I couldn’t just buy something, even as cheap as $5.59, without checking if I had a coupon. After all, what would you all think of me.

So I stood there for a minute and thought, okay, drive home (use some gas), check coupons, drive back (more gas). Nope, I’ll just take my chances. How much did you say….SOLD!

Of course how could I not check anyway to see if there really was a coupon. You know I had to. Searching and searching, looking and looking and BAM, not just a coupon but better than a coupon. A REBATE. Yes folks, that’s right, I bought the darn WAHL hair clipper for $5.59 and found a rebate for $5.00. You know I planned it that way right? Not! Just an innocent trip to Walgreens and stumbled on a great deal.

Why the story to tell you about the Wahl clipper deal? Well mostly because I was getting bored of just posting…”buy this, use this coupon, get it for this”. So boring, don’t you think? Spice things ups a bit.

But back to the basics:

Wahl Clippers (model # 9155-100) on clearance for $5.59
note: sticker said $15 but I knew it was on clearance and would be cheaper
Use this rebate form to get $5.00 back.
Final Price: .59¢

END OF STORY!
