July 2009

In this house, Wendy’s is our favorite fast food place so I always love their coupons.
This one just arrived in my inbox today so I thought I would share it with you.
It’s for their Sweet & Spicy Asian Chicken.
I have never had it before but for $1 off I’m willing to try.
Go here to get your coupon.

Okay, the buzz in my house is all about the Harry Potter movie.
My daughter has been catching up on all the other Harry Potter movies.
I’m just upset I have to wait up for here to get home at like 2 or 3 am.
Whoever decided to have a movie at midnight obviously doesn’t have teenagers.

Anyway, if you get your tickets in advance through Fandango you will be able to download Friends and Love on iTunes.
I’m told that’s a good thing.

Get a free iTunes download!

Buy advance tickets to Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and get a free song download!

So Saturday I spent the day at the A&P triples and Aldi where I spent $46.96. On Sunday, I visited Pathmark, several times, and loaded up on protein. There I spent $28.23 which put right at my budget. It was more then I had planned on spending but the meats and fish were such a great price and I had that Stop & Shop meat coupon that expires on Thursday. Finding out that I could use it before the sale price of the meat was awesome and helped me to get everything you see. I wound up with the following meats & fish:

3.34 lbs of 80% Ground Beef
6 Jenni-O Turkey Burgers (used the $5.00 coupon from Biggest Loser)
5.22 lbs of boneless pork loin
5.35 lbs of sausage
2.8 lbs of Tilapia (this was only $3.99 for fresh)

I also picked up 2 yams, 2 lemons, sunflower seed and black bean.

Here is everything cut up, divided and ready for the freezer. There are about 11 meals there (including the turkey burgers) for my family. Take out $8 for the other odds and ends I bought and thats $20 worth of protein foods averaging $1.82 per meal. I’d say that was a pretty good deal. Add that to the 8 packages of chicken already in my freezer and I’m good until the next great sale or coupon.

UPDATE: Stop & Shop coupon has been taken down. Hope you printed one already

What’s For Dinner?

by Cindy on July 13, 2009

My menu planning is a flexible menu. Having older kids makes for an ever changing schedule of who is home and who is not. Having a list of meals I know I have available to choose from really helps. It keeps me flexible but focused at the same time.. So here is our plan for this week.

Remember that everything we are preparing for the week may not necessarily be something that I bought this week. I have quick a stockpile in my pantry and freezers that I can choose from.

Here is our flexible dinner menu:

  • On Monday it will be just me (so sad) so I will just make myself french toast or something simple.
  • Tacos
  • Chicken Stir Fry w/ rice
  • Slow Cooker Black Beans & Rice
  • Turkey Burgers, Wacky Mac pasta salad
  • Tilapia, Rice Pilaf, Veggies
  • Grilled Pork, Beans, Salad

So Target has been good to me the last couple of weeks so I didn’t want to leave them out of my good deals for this week. And actually it really is a good deal.
I usually try to make my target cereal price to be around $.50 – .75 per box. $.88 is slightly higher but they are 2 cereals that my family really likes.
This week Target has Kellogg’s Frosted Mini Wheats & Raisin Bran Crunch on sale for $1.88. Use the $1/1 from the 6/7 Red Plum to get them for only $.88.

Another good deal is FREE Sobe Life Water.
Buy 10 Sobe Life Water at $1.00 each
Use 5 BOGO printable coupons ie or firefox
Pay $5 OOP and get a $5 Target Gift Card
If you are like me, you already have a $5 gift card so OOP is $0.

See you at Target.
