by Cindy on October 26, 2009

October numbers are in. How did we do?
If you remember, I started keeping track in March. Previously my grocery bill used to be $225-$275 each week. I used to take advantage of some coupons that I would cut from the one insert I had from that week.

March:
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $567.83
Avg $128.24 per week

April:
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $380.57
Avg $95.14 per week

May:
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $425.02
Avg $106.25 per week

June:
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $323.34
Avg $80.84 per week

July
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $288.99
Avg $72.25

August
Total Spent out of pocket for the month: $288.08

September
Total spent out of pocket for the month: $279.16

October

**If you missed it you can check out our months shopping trips here.

So to sum up our budget, for the last 8 months I have saved over $5100. That is over $640 each month. Click here to see how I got started using coupons and saving.
If you are ready to get started using coupons, check out my beginner series here.

My grocery budget week goes from a Friday to Thursday as that is when we get paid. So this month’s groceries were determined from Friday 9/25 through Thursday 10/22. Next month are from 10/23 – 11/20.

$1 Chicken Meal At Boston Market

by Cindy on October 26, 2009

What an awesome deal this is. Boston Market is offering up $1.00 meals for this week (ends 11/1/09). There is a coupon attached to an email that was sent to me by my sister-in-law Jodi and a reader, Marilyn. I can’t reproduce the coupon to attach here on my site but I can forward it to a friend. So, if you would like the coupon the only way I can give it to you is if you email me here and I will forward the coupon to you.

Super Savings Shopping Trip

by Cindy on October 26, 2009

At ShopRite I spent $7.41 for $32.35 worth of groceries. The cashier, who was a young man, looked twice at the register and then checked the receipt because he was sure he did something wrong. I assured him that he didn’t. But he checked anyway. It was very funny.

I don’t always post up my Walgreens or CVS deals but I did this one because I was able to get my Halloween candy for nothing. I paid $1.20 out of pocket which was really just tax. Total of items purchased was $35.73And last but not least was Pathmark. I went pretty late tonight (Sunday) and they were all out of the ground beef (50% off) so I will be going back for that during the week as well as bread that I forgot. I spent $14.81 for $36.87 worth of groceries. I was able to get the chicken legs for only $1 and change each as they were on managers special.

Total spent for the week so far: $23.42 for $104.95 worth of groceries
I will probably be spending another $15 at Pathmark for the meat and bread. Putting my total for the week at around $40.00 which is $35 under budget for the week and $98 under budget for the month.

We Have Had a Rough Fall

by Cindy on October 26, 2009

<-----------See this handsome young man.

This is my son Patrick from one of his senior pictures. He is a wonderful young man. Kind, considerate, a leader and a great athlete. He has wonderful qualities however lately he has been causing me many, many sleepless nights. From his football injury last month and now the car accident he was just in on Friday night.

We arrived at the scene of the accident knowing the he was okay. What we saw when we arrived was more then I could handle. The entire front end of the car was completely gone. Completely! Just a pile of metal. Tires deflated, pieces of the car all over the road. But my son and his friend, who was a passenger in the car, did not have a scratch on them except for a bumped knee and a burn on the hand (from the airbag). They were able to open the doors without a problem. No glass was broken. I am simply amazed, grateful and thanking God every second. The airbags opened and not one bit of the main passenger area compressed but there was nothing left of the front of the car. It was as if they were in a bubble being protected. If you are looking for a car for your teen, I would highly recommend a Jeep Liberty. Their crash safety record was proven this weekend. It truly saved my son and his friend. We will find out this week how much damage there was but my gut tells me it is totaled.

Can I tell you that life was so much easier when they were babies. I knew where they were, what they were doing. Now, instead of getting up in the middle of the night for feedings or nightmares, I’m up all night with visions of football injuries and car accidents. {sigh}
