ShopRite Coupon Policy

by Cindy on January 13, 2010

Here is your ShopRite coupon policy updated 3/13/10:

  • Double manufacturer coupons up to and including $0.99. Coupons over that amount will be redemmed at face value.
  • Internet printed coupons are reviewed for content by the store staff. Once they have been verified they will be redeemed.
  • Only 4 like coupons allowed per transaction
  • Store coupons can be stacked with manufacturer coupons
  • Cellfire coupons can be loaded onto your price plus card.
  • Do Not Double Coupons: Some coupons will state “Do Not Double” on the coupon. If the first number of the coupon is a 5 then it will automatically double unless the cashier stops it from doubling. It will really depend on your store and their policies as to if they will allow these to double.
  • Each ShopRite store is individually owned and operated. Therefore they may have different policies in place. Please check with your store to confirm their individual policies.

Could you tell me what Shoprite’s policy is regarding using multiple catalinas? I have 3 $5 Cats that I can only use during next week and would like to use them all at once. Is this possible?

Reply

Cindy May 20, 2010 at 3:08 pm

@brady, Yes you can use them all at once,

I had a problem with them the second week. The first week the cashier honored them, but the second week…the front end manager wouldn’t allow me to use them all. I had 7 $5 coupons…and was only allowed to use four of them and told to come back and shop. I was none too happy…had anyone else had a problem with them.

It is confirmed possibly that we can use cell fire with internet coupon? You listed on shoprite buy 3 for 75 cents off printable and than and use cellfire.

Wouldnt we have to buy 6 in order to use both?

Reply

Leah February 12, 2011 at 7:55 pm

I emailed Cell fire. Some coupons scan as a duplicate of the cell coupon so you will need more than one of the offers. But in some cases they don’t scan as a duplicate and you can use both on same offer. Their is no way of knowing.

I have a question about stacking the coupons. In Shop Rite policy says that store coupons can be stacked with manufacturer coupons. Does that mean that I can stack catalina’s with the printable coupons?. I was trying to do that today and the cashier told me that I can’t do that.

Reply

Cindy January 15, 2011 at 7:37 pm

Anna are you referring to a catalina that if off your next order or a catalina coupon for a specific item? Catalinas for a specific item are manufacturer coupons and can not be combined with another manufacturer coupon. But the catalina for a dollar amount off your next order can be used with other manufacturer coupons.

Hope that helps.

Does anyone know SR’s policy on BOGO coupons? Will they accept a BOGO free coupon, and a cents-off coupon for the purchased item?

Amy March 5, 2011 at 7:03 pm

I don’t know if they do all the time, but last week I had a coupon for buy beggin strips and recieve free busy bone and they let me use that coupon with $1 off beggin strips.

When SR limits a sale item to “Limit 4 Offers” and you need to use the PP card to get the sale price, can you go back later in the week and buy another 4 with the PP card, or will the register reject it because you’ve already gotten your limit of 4? Thanks!

Reply

Cindy January 27, 2011 at 10:18 pm

You can go back and buy another 4. Also, pay attention to how the limit 4 reads. Sometimes it’s limit 4 per variety. So you can buy more if there are more varieties of that product. 4 of one variety and 4 of another etc.

Has this happen to anyone else cause I have never had a problem before with them doing this.
I did some shopping at shoprite yesterday when I was finished and looked at the receipt I notice that for 4 of my coupons for .40 they didn’t double so I went back into the store and asked why, they told me that the item I was getting was on sale for .69 and they will only give me .69 not the whole .80. I even went to another shoprite in my area and they said the same thing they should have given me the .80.

Reply

cathy March 4, 2011 at 2:30 pm

catherini, the coupon value can not exceed the price of the item. the store is correct

Reply

Amy March 5, 2011 at 7:10 pm

Did they double the coupon to make it so they took off $.69 or just not double it at all? I bought Philadelphia Cooking cream that was on sale this week for $1.49 an used a coupon for $1.50/1 and it took off $1.50.

Annie May 2, 2011 at 11:48 pm

Have the cashier scan your card LAST – after all of your coupons. This way the coupon will double for the full amount b/c the item is not ringing up at the sale price yet. Then you will get the overage and it will automatically be applied to the rest of your order.

Reply

Catherine May 24, 2011 at 6:05 pm

I have tried that at a few shoprite and was told by the cashiers that the card needs to be scanned before my coupons can be taken off..

Reply

Caroline March 19, 2011 at 8:38 pm

Hi Cindy, I was told at Shoprite that they do not accept manufacturer coupons if they have “redeem at Wawa” or “Target” etc. Is this correct? The cashier checked with 2 other “supervisors” and they all agreed that they could not accept them. It was my understanding that they should accept them if they are regular manufacturer coupons even if they have “redeem at…..”on them. Thank you so much for your help.

Reply

Cindy March 19, 2011 at 11:16 pm

Technically they are manufacturer coupons and since they don’t say “Redeem only at Target” you can use them anywhere. However, it comes down to the policy of your store. Unfortunately some stores refuse them. You can talk to store management, but if that is their rule then there is really nothing you can do about it.

I’m fairly new to couponing, and I had a question about how the Unilever, P&G, etc. promotions of “Spend $X in the products listed below and get $X off your next purchase.” These usually print as a catalina at the register. When you spend the $X is that amount from the original price or the sale price? And how is that different when it’s a sale price vs. a price plus coupon? The number of different ways that ShopRite puts things “on sale” confuses me!

Reply

Leah March 25, 2011 at 10:33 am

have same question. I went last night for the suave deal buy 20 get 10. And though i had enough but didn’t get it.

Reply

Claire March 23, 2011 at 12:58 pm

Do anyone know of any Shoprites in the Philadelphia area that actually fully double all coupons? For example, mine (Aramingo Ave) only doubles up to 1.00. So when the deal states Buy X for $1.50, use 75 cent coupon, item free after coupon, my sale really is Bux X for $1.50, use 75 cent coupon, item is 50 cents after coupon.

I’d be willing to drive a little to a store that fully doubles if I have a bunch of deals like this.

Reply

DAVID March 28, 2011 at 6:04 am

My shop rite here in NY just started doing that! It will only double up to $1 dollar, so if I use a 75 cent coupon, it will give me one dollar off, not $1.50! What a jip

I shop at a ShopRite in Bucks County and they also only double the coupon up to one dollar. Maybe it is this area.

What do you do when SR makes up bogus policies when you’re in the middle of a transaction? Today I was making a purchase with multiple coupons (1 per item basically) and my store is running triple coupons this week. NONE of my coupons tripled, so the cashier called for assistance, and together they called for MORE assistance, and that person then called for the store manager, who made up all kinds of reasons why they wouldn’t triple my coupons: because the computer didn’t do it automatically and they’re at the mercy of the computer, because they don’t triple coupons on sale items, because my coupons were printed on the internet … you name it, they gave it as a “reason” for not tripling.

Their policy doesn’t say anything about the computer, sale items, or internet coupons (it does say that coupons printed with smartsource on the label are not to be tripled, only doubled, and that WebBucks coupons are only not to be tripled, only doubled – but none of my coupons were SS or WB.

What can I do?

I am new to this and I am a bit confused on how to use coupons. Can I use two manufacturer’s coupons at once per one item or do I have to use one manufacturer’s and one store coupon per one item. I am wondering because I saw the Santa Cruz Organic Lemonade deal and it stated:

Here is your deal at ShopRite:

Santa Cruz Organic Lemonade $1.50
use $0.75/1 Santa Cruz Coupon
Free after coupon

If I can only use one than it would be $0.75 after the coupon. Please let me know and thanks in advance. Lori

Reply

Cindy April 7, 2011 at 11:17 am

The $0.75 coupon doubles to $1.50 in this sceanrio. However, not every ShopRite fully doubles. Some ShopRite will only double up to $1.00 so be sure to check with your customer service dept to see your specific policy.

I consider myself in South Jersey (more central) and they fully double coupons up to 99 cents. That would be Shoprite of Middletown, NJ. However, the only Internet coupons they will accept are from coupons.com. No Smartsource. Shoprite wants a website printed on the coupons.

How do they calculate the ShopRite Family Rewards points? I know that for every $1 you spend on a participating item, then you get 1 point. But do they calculate it based upon the shelf price, sale price, or amount you pay before/after coupons? I’m trying to figure it out because now my total is 94.06. I only have until the end of next week to reach 100.

Reply

Cindy June 18, 2011 at 11:05 pm

Each store is independently owned so if they have adjust their policy to be only 1 free coupon item per transaction then there is nothing that you can do but follow their policy

Reply

LISA June 29, 2011 at 4:39 pm

Just had the same thing happen to me today. Although my shoprite did not post anyhting to explain the policy. Maybe I have never had more then one free item or because I have paid a few cents for something I am allowed to have the coupon double. Limit is 4 coupons per like item. But today I tried to get some creamer (I always use the stuff) and was doing a MAJOR shopping trip — also had a ton of coupons. The cashier snagged not only the international delight but also I was getting 2 joy cones packs for free and she told me the coupon only doubles on the first item. They will accept the other coupons but they won’t double. I never knew that was their policy … I really try to stay on top of the stores because I really don’t like being critized for trying to cheat the system. But this is somthing they didn’t post on their site or at the store. I know it fustrated the people behind when I confirmed the policy with the manager …I wanted to hear it from him and not the cashier. I really wish they posted their policy more clearly so it will be easier for customers to abide. I really don’t like causing issues … but I never knew the policy was in place. Apparently it is up to the cashier to catch the items because the cupons scan and double on their own just fine. She realized her mistake as she was bagging and before I swiped my card which kinda annoyed me too because know she had to go back and unswipe the products, re-ring the products and adjust the coupons. This is why they need to make things clearer to the customers! It wastes everyones time!

If you were only buying the colgate, they would give it to you for free. ShopRite does not give “change” back on coupons. If you have other items on the order the store might give you the .23 cents credit towards your entire purchase, but that depends on the store.

ShopRite is really cracking down on their cashiers to watch coupons.
Last week the cashier at my ShopRite gave me a hard time about the Blue Bunny ice cream coupons – she said she thought they looked fake because there was no watermark on them. They were printed from the Blue Bunny website! She also said my internet coupons should all be in color – I told her I’ve been printing in black & white for a while and never had an issue. Some coupons specify they need to be in color – but not the ones I had. The week before I had a cashier tell me I couldn’t do two transactions in a row. I told her I do it every week and asked for the manager. The manager said it was fine.
Moral of the story – know your store’s coupon policy well – know all the details of your coupons and don’t be afraid to ask to speak to a manager.

Jessica August 5, 2011 at 2:36 pm

SR really is cracking down! I had 6 coupons that I printed myself from coupons.com and the cashier was telling me that I could only use 1 because the others were only copies. Even after I told her that I had printed them myself she still refused to take them. I asked to speak to the manager and after further investigation he came to the conclusion they were not copies.

Reply

Anonymous October 16, 2011 at 2:09 am

FYI, the coupons that I print, actually have numbers on them that are unique. If there is a duplicate number, only then can they claim it is a copy. If you run into this problem again, I would point it out to the cashier.

A couple of questions, are there any shoprites in South jersey that fully double, mine will only double to a dollar which is really disappointing. Also, how does service star work? I thought I would have it deducted off my bill with my price plus. I bought purina cat chow only because I thought I was getting 2.00 off and I didn’t :( I still have a lot to learn, and am going to have to decide what
really is a good deal and isn’t now that I know for sure my shoprite does not fully double. I really would love to know how people buy things and only pay a few dollars, it seems almost impossible to me!

I went to ShopRite tonight and was annoyed by one of the managers. I went thru the checkout with my order…had taken the wrong jelly (welchs instead of smuckers) so I had to go back. I went back in and grabbed 2 jars. When I checked out the cashier was at a loss of what to do since my total was $0.00 So the manager came over and said they cant accept more than 1 internet coupon per item per transaction. Hmm, funny since the order I had done previously used 2 internet coupons for the Scotties tissues… Anyway..I told her thats fine even thou that had never happened before. I would ring them up separate. She pushed the jar and coupon towards me and said well then you need to go to a different register.

Oh..and for the first two transactions..I dont know what they did but for my big order they somehow put it on the wrong PP card…how I dont know since I gave them mine.

At this point I might just go to the other ShopRite by me. Its a longer drive but if I dont have to deal with the nonsense I will be very happy. I can never seem to find the right time to shop. I am always feeling rushed thru…The cashiers are always clueless or seeming like they annoyed at having to be there.

I would like to add that my local store stated this week (never had a problem before) that they do not accept internet coupons without a watermark. I tried using 3 Stonyfield coupons (printed from their website) and they refused them because there was no watermark on them. I pointed out that this was not stated on the coupon policy and they said that they have to right to refuse any coupon that appears to be fraudulent….it was quite embarrassing. They treated me like I was trying to steal from them…ugh.

Reply

Anonymous October 16, 2011 at 2:15 am

In my opinion, that’s just laziness on the part of the cashier. I’ve had coupons that wouldn’t register and the cashier just “entered” the number on the coupon. If, after entering the number and then it doesn’t come up as valid, I would understand (maybe!). Bear in mind, that they are probably following the instructions given to them by the manager. I would have asked to speak to the manager for clarification and their reason.

Reply

Leslie October 20, 2011 at 11:52 am

Thanks for the reply…it was actually the manager who refused the coupons. She didn’t even try to scan them to see if they would go through. She just assumed that they were fraudulant because there was no watermark. The cashier was actually afraid to scan them (that’s why she called the manager). She told me she didn’t want to get in trouble for accepting questionable coupons. So, I think that it really depends on the manager on duty. I usually go in the afternoon and they (cashiers and managers) are always very nice and never give me attitude about my coupons. This time I went early in the morning…it was like being in a completely different store based on the way I was treated.

Can you do more than one round of the same catalina deal at once? Example – if you buy 2 shampoos, you get $3 off your next order. If I buy 8 shampoos in one transaction will FOUR $3 off your next order catalinas print out?

Or can I go back to the store each day and get another of the same catalina I did from the day before?

Will either option work?

When Shop Rite has a special, such as the one this week for the nabisco cookies (12 pack) and the deal is spend $25 on certain nabisco products you get $20 in coupons for future purchases, is it the original price of the cookies or the sale price that contributes to the $25 required spending. I tried this deal at two different shop rites and they both handled it differently….one in my favor, the other not. thanks.

I stated that I have used them both in the past. The front end manager was really quite nasty about it. I asked for the store manager and was told he could not see me. I asked for a copy of the store’s coupon policy and was told they don’t have to give me one. There are other stores in the area, but their prices are not as good as Shop rite on most of the items I need at the time. Living on the budget I have to shop with, I have to go where I get the best deals.

Hi Cindy/Everyone – I need some help understanding SR policy. I am starting to think I have been “Cheating” but completely unintentionally.
How many coupons (like or different) are you allowed to use PER ITEM? The SR I normally go to has always just taken my stack of coupons and just scanned away..even when they wouldn’t go thru the cashier would set them aside and when the front end manager came over they just stood there until they were all in (lots of over-rides I guess). I have been using up to 4 coupons per item because thats what I thought was allowed (and thats whats been happening the last 3 months since I started couponing). Yesterday – I had an issue- I was at a different SR location and had an issue. I was just picking up 4 or 5 items and 1 item was the Brawny Paper Towels on-sale this week. I had 1 coupon for $1 off any pack of 8 or more and another for .55 off a 6pk or more..both were printable. The cashier was new and of course only 1 went thru…so when the manager was called she said i was only able to use 1 coupon per item unless it was a SR coupon AND my printable. I would have had to purchased 2 packs of Brawny to use 2 coupons. I have a copy of the store policy and just like it states above says “we reserve the right to limit coupons to 4 like coupons per transaction” – doesn’t say anything about per item and every other store(Target, Riteaid, CVS etc) is pretty specific.
I defiantly don’t want to get anyone in trouble and I defiantly don’t want to “Cheat the system” …I just want to do whats right!
HELP!

Tiffany, you can only use 1 manufacturer coupon per item. This is actually not a store policy but a restriction on all coupons. The coupons state, “COUPON LIMIT ONE COUPON PER PURCHASE”. When ShopRite states that you can only use “4 like coupons” you still need to make a purchase of the 4 items. So buy 4 items use 4 coupons, 1 per item.

Thank you for reaching out to clarify it so that you can coupon correctly from here on out :)

I posted it in Store match but reposting it here, guess it is more appropriet place.
Just had a horrible experince at S&S. They have 5 for $5 Coca Cola this week and I was going to use (4) 99c coupons with that. There was suppose to be some overage so I had more items. 3 coupons dobled to $1.89 which is correct since it is shelf price and forth only to $1.09 which was wrong. Moreover, soda ringed $1.49 and not a deal price for 5. I went to CS and there were a snarky person who very loudly told me that I try to get money out of the store and this is why I get those prices and there is no overage, I pointed that I got overage already, so they do allow it but prices comming off wrong besides coupons. Anyway, I asked for manager and he gave me few reasons for this problem, that coupons should not reach sale price instead of shelf price, which is not true since 3 coupons went to shelf price, that I cannot combine coupons with deal, which is not true again and that store coupons cannot work together with manuf. coupons, which is not true again. Once again I was told that I am taking money out of the store and try to change their policy. By this time someone behind me started all this ” cheap idiot, $2 can make her richer” talk.
So, I had enough, I returned everything, got my coupons back and left.
I am not sure completely about overage with S&S but it did give me some, so I guess they do it. I have no idea why I actually had this mess, because none of their reasons were true. So disapointed.
So my question is, do they actually have overage and to which price sale or shelf coupon suppose to double, my store fully doubles all coupons up tp $1.
Thanks.

At my store they definitely do not give overage and the price is the sale price.

Update!
I went to another S&S and did the same transaction using same coupons. Here what I got, all coupons doubled to shelf price except one which doubled to $1.76, in first store it doubled to only $1.08 . Deal price appeared before coupons and went up to $1.49 after coupons, it was weird, total just went up. I made calculations and what I think happening is coupon doubles to shelf price and overage does exist but can be applied only to same item, in my case 5th soda which did not have coupon. The remaining of overage goes to zero, this is why 4th coupon doubled less. I still do not understand why deal price does not apply in such cases, I mean coupons could just not be accepted when zero reached. Technically I wasted 1 coupon, I could get same results with only 3 coupons if deal price did not change. I will definitely keep this in mind next time.

My Shoprite will only double a coupon up to the sale price. I asked about this as I stacked some coupons for OstoBiFlex. I had 4 $7.00 coupons and then 4 $1.50 catalinas. The sale price was $7.99. The front end manager told me that I could not use all the coupons I had because I had to many. When I pulled out their coupon policy and showed her that I could, but there would be no overage, she did the transaction.
Please remember that each Shop-Rite is privately owned and they don’t have a universal coupon policy. Each store can and does make it’s own policy and can change them without any notice. First thing I do upon entering the store is go right to the service desk and review the policy. They often have to print on as they don’t keepit on hand. Takes more time but at least then I know what I can and can not do.

Hi everyone, just wondering about about combining e-coupons at SR in general…..i realize policies differ but would love your insights.
1. will, for example, a Cellfire $0.75 off Total cereal, AND .75 off Total Shoprite e-coupon apply to the same one box of cereal for a total of $1.50 off?
2. will the above + a paper $0.75 off work on the same box for a total of $2.25 off?
I have a feeling #2 is a pipe dream but just had to ask.
BTW Cindy- This site is a treasure trove of info. Some people check facebook for updates every 10 seconds…i check here for new deals!!!!!!!!

Hi there,
i Live in the back mountain area of PA and I heard of a shop rite in Daleville and broadheadsville Pa…..does anyone from here shop there and do they double Q’s up to a $1 or just double up to and including $1? (ex. $.75 doubles to $1.50 or $1.00?) also are these the same store or two different stores? i am also looking for a shopping and couponing buddy if your local. please reply..thanks

oh, one more thing, when i make a list, i did a few different stores, like target, cvs, shoprite, etc. and i had NO idea that all the lists would be combined when i printed them. i thought each store would print a separate list. is this a glitch or do i have to clear each list after i print it and start a new one. please advise.
