Acme: General Mills Catalina Deal!

Here is the newest catalina deal this week at Acme.  It’s a Buy $25 Get $10 catalina. And, it is working on Shelf Price.   Which means you can use the shelf price to get to the $25 mark and pay less out of pocket.   Don’t forget to watch for Knock Down prices.  What are Knock Down prices?

For many years Acme and other stores have been putting out these great catalina deals.  As you have found, they work on Shelf price.  Which means that you can caluculate the amount needed to spend on the actual price that you would get if you were NOT  using your store loyalty card (which we coupon shoppers always use)  or what’s called the shelf price.  Acme, and other stores, will lower the shelf price on the items that they do not want to be used at the original shelf price.  So, they lower some select products for each deal to the price of the sale price and they call them Knock Down prices.  Some sales have more Knock Down products and some don’t.  This is how they regulate the shelf vs. sale price difference.

Also, for this deal, there are some Double Dips on Catalinas which means that 2 different promotions are running at the same time.

UPDATE On the Double Dip catalinas:  The Fiber Ones did not print so, until we here otherwise, don’t count on any of the extra cats.  If it prints for you please let us know.

Here are the items in the deal with the shelf price and sale price.   Where I have a KD listed that is for Knock Down prices, however, you will have to check the Knock Down price at your store.

Note:

There are a lot of products and a lot of coupons.  It is important that you make sure you are purchasing the correct product because if your catalina doesn’t print, you will probably not be able to get it in the store and will need to contact Catalina Marketing company.  A perfect example is the double dip catalinas.  These are national catalinas and not advertised in the store.  Customer Service usually will not honor it right in the store.  So be aware that this might happen.

Also, most of General Mills coupons are “Do Not Double” coupons.  Please know your store’s policy on DND coupons.  They will double automatically, however some stores do not allow them to.

When you do catalina deals, you have to understand that these do not always work the way we think they may.  Possibly you’ve picked up the wrong size product, possible you didn’t realize it was a Knock Down price and calculated it incorrectly.  So, although these deals are awesome, you have to be prepared for an unsuccessful trip now and then.  It goes along with the territory. It happens to all of us.  So, please keep that in mind when you are doing the deals.

Now, with all that said, let us know what you score.  We love scenarios! 🙂

  • Tina

I don’t usually shop at Acme.. What is their coupon policy? Is it 4 like coupons in one transaction? Do they double?

    • Amanda S

Check with your local store on their policy because I’ve read a variety of rules for the different ones. The Acme I shop at doubles unlimited coupons up to .99 (i.e. $0 .75 = $1.50).

  • Christine

My Acme’s coupon policy is that they double up to $1, but (are you sitting down?) NO LIMIT!! Often my Acme gets around the no limit by limiting the sale price per variety (so when Libbys veggies were on sale, I was “only” able to buy 6 per variety per transaction).

Hope your Acme is the same. Its Awesome! (and my acme is not very close, but when a big deal is available, its worth the drive)

  • morgan

I bought 4 Fiber One bars this morning and while I did get the $10 cat, I didn’t get the additional 2.50. Does anyone know why?

    • Cindy

Hmm, well there is a possibility that Acme isn’t participating in the separate catalinas. They are national so I assumed that Acme would be doing them, as they usually do. I’m wondering about the other ones now. We will have to see if any of them are working.

    • colleen

Is that all that you bought? You would have to spend $25 to get the Catalina.

      • colleen

Whoops! I misread the post – you did get the catalina. Sorry!

  • Tina

I’m reading the circular online and it says “minimum purchase calculated after manufacturers coupons” .. is that true?

    • Cindy

Tina, they have added that blurb recently and I’m not sure why because, as with Stop & Shop, it never works after coupons. It always works before coupons.

      • KAREN

My acme deal did not work after trying all of the scenarios. None of the catalinas printed. The printer was not out of paper and the manager said that the total had to be 25$ after coupons?? Did anyone else have this problem? I want to try again

  • Shannon

Maybe everyone already knows this, but, we live in Ohio and I drove 40 minutes to the closest “ACME” only to find out that it is not the same “ACME”. I guess the ACME on the East coast and maybe other places is a different company than the one we have here and therefore these great catalina offers were not available. 🙁 Sad day. 🙁

    • Cindy

Oh no 🙁 Go figure. I didn’t even know that there was more then one. Wonder why they would do that.

      • Shannon

I lived in NJ for my whole life, and only moved to Ohio a little over 2 years ago..I tried to get my Mom (still in NJ) to head to Acme the other day to score those great deals for me. 🙂 She didn’t go for it. I’ll keep an eye on Giant Eagle instead. I’m still learning how to do all this fun stuff and I really appreciate your web site!
        Thanks!

  • Hey there is a .75 coupon for cheerios at coupons.com

    • Michele

What zip are you using? I can’t find under a handful I tried. TIA.

  • Lynn

    Thanks for the deal ideas!

  • Megan

Most of the coupons are on the target website too. They also do not have DND on them if your store (or cashier) likes the DND button.

  • Meeta

Pillsbury caltalina is not printing at Acme – bought 6 sweet moments – nothing came out from Pillsbury but I had OEP items too – and got the GM catalina – good thing – they are printing 2 – $5 each (better than $10 what we got last week) 🙂

    • Amanda S

So do you think the Sweet Moments did go towards your $25 total? I noticed the note in the matchups above that said this may not be working. We LOVE these things!

      • Meeta

Sorry – did not see that note till today – yes Sweet moments are listed on last page of Acme ad and they are counted towards $25 – also shelf price goes towards $25..

  • Liz L

Cindy – as always we thank you! But, after yesterday I need to ask, where is Dana with her amazing scenarios? Oh wait…I bet she’s at ACME!

    • Yes I was at Acme! Plus I was updating my blog (you can click on my name above). It’s not very big-don’t expect the greatness you find at LRWC!

I set it up a while ago to teach my family/friends how to do cat deals at acme 🙂 I try and write in a way that a new couponer can understand-but that’s really not as easy as it sounds. There’s so much information to learn especially when it comes to cat deals…but that’s by far where you can save the most money..as you guys know!
      Dana

      • Samantha

Dana- Thanks for the post, but when I tried to click on your name like you said the link says it doesn’t work. Would you please write out the name of the site or post them here? I can’t wait to see, especially since your post was so helpful from last week’s cat deal at Acme. Thx!!!

        • Cindy

Just tried it and it’s working

      • Irishsaver

Nice blog Dana thanks for sharing well done..

  • Ruth Jenkins

If anyone still has the Better At Home (Save up to 15.00) coupon book that was at Acme recently, there is a coupon in there for $1.00 off Cinnamon Toast Crunch (expires 10/25) and $1.00 off 2 Honey Nut Cheerios or Cherios. There are a lot more coupons in there that can be used for this sale. I had grabbed some of these book just in case a sale came up and these will come very handy for this sale.

  • Amanda S

Can’t wait to see scenarios posted!! I’m such a follower 🙂

  • faith marandola

    Good starter scenerio is
    10 hamburger helpers 26.90 shelf
    -4 .75cents/3 q from recent inserts
pay 5.50 get back 10 catalina

a good one i did is

2 bc quick breads shelf 5.78
3 yoplait splitz yogurts shelf 9.87
    4 totinos shelf 10.76
    – 2 50 cent off quick breads (recent gm inserts)
    – 3 50 cent off splize yogurt
    shelf total 26.41
sale total after q was an even $10.00

all total between 6 transactions I banked, 22 hamburger helpers, 4 totinos, 3 yogurt 4 packs, 6 chex mix, 11 progresso, 4 fruit snacks, 4 frostings, 4 cake mixes, and a partridge in a pair tree for a whopping 5 bucks out of pocket after starting out with last weeks catalina! I will also say, the disclaimer in the ad says the $25 dollar total is calculated after man q, that is not true at all…an earlier commenter was correct in saying that the terms of a catalina deal are dictated by catalina marketing company. Not acme…so, fear not! Happy rollin folks!

  • I bought the items in your scenario two …the cake mix/frosting and chex mix and got a $10 and $3 catalina 🙂

  • Ruth Jenkins

I walked into Acme tonight with a $10.00 catalina, did 6 orders, my out pocket expense was less than $3.00 and I now have $20.00 in catalinas, better than last week’s deal. The shelves are being cleared quickly though, hopefully Acme is prepared for this deal and they will restock quickly.
A good way to make sure that you reach the $25.00 with no mistakes is to scan the Acme Card at the end of the transaction and before you hand the cashier the coupons. Worked great for me last week and so far this week.

  • Liz L

Had an ACME adventure tonight with my hubby….hee…hee…hee it was so much FUN!

  • robin

Can someone explain the KnockDown pricing for me? Does the KD price become the same as the sale price so it won’t work with these deals? I’m very confused! Thanks in advance for any replies.

    • Amanda S

See Dana’s response below to the KD prices – she gives a good explanation on them. You can still use the KD items towards your scenarios, just make sure the sale price (KD price) is what you’re using to reach your $25 threshold.

  • Amanda S

Knock Down Prices – how can I confirm them at the store? Do they adjust the actual shelf price tag to reflect the KD price or are they specially marked?

    • Cindy

Yes you have to check the shelf prices.

    • Yes the shelf tag will be different. Look at the bottom left corner of the special catalina tag. You will either see a supercard or boxing gloves with the words “Knock Down”.

If it’s a supercard: you’ll be using the regular price of the item to calculate your deal.

If it says Knock Down: you’ll be using the Knock Down price shown on the tag. Most times…the knock down price is the same as the sale price. Actually, I can’t remember the Knock Down price being anything other than the sale price…but I don’t want to say it’s ALWAYS the same!
      HTH
      Dana

      • Amanda S

This is great info! Thanks Dana!!

  • Danae

Watch out on the Chex Mix- the flavors I chose didn’t ring up at the sale price. YIKES! Definitely not worth 3.39 a bag, so I’ll have to return them. They were Dark Chocolate, and Trail Mix flavor.

  • jodi kwityn

Are the Cats coming out $10 or two $5?
I’m making my list now and am coming out with alot of $5 orders!

    • Cindy

They come out as 1- $10 Catalina

      • robin

Mine were all 2 $5.00’s also and I did 7 transactions.

  • faith

all mine came out as 2 $5 catalinas

    • Cindy

Oh well yay! That’s great. So, disregard my comment. Thanks Faith 🙂

      • Every Catalina sale is different. I started on Friday morning with 10 boxes of ham. helper and paid $5.50 in cash! If I had known ahead of time that it was going to print 2 $5, I would have done this transaction 2nd…and would have paid $0.50 oop. oh well…it all works out!

  • Liz L

Tried with 15 boxes of GG veggies today, and got no CAT. CS told me it was because I didn’t spend $25. I know better, as do all of you. However, there must be a box of veggies there not programmed to work with this deal. I got my money back and bought 6 boxes of Multigrain Cheerios instead.

    • The GG boxed veggies are on KD for $1 each…you would have to buy 25 of them to get the $10…or did you mean to “say” 25 and it came out 15?

      • Liz L

Thanks Dana. Yesterday I used 4 of them as filler on another scenario to get above $25. Guess it was just coincidence. So, what you’re saying is whatever the KD price is SHOULD be the price you use to calculate your shelf price, right? You can’t use the original shelf price (in this case $9.00/4)

        • Yes..always use the price that’s on the special shelf tag for the catalina. (This week they are pink) Never go by what the item was priced at the week before.

and btw…i love all these great questions!

I just got back from Acme and did well. Bought 2 boxes of Cinn Toast Crunch cereal, 3 cans El Paso Refried Beans, 1 can of Progresso Bread Crumbs, 4 boxes of Totinos Pizza Rolls (also 2 cans of evaporated milk, Advil, jar of Horseradish sauce that weren’t part of the deal). After all coupons, I ended up paying $13.70 and got 2 $5 catalinas. Currently planning my next trip. I would have bought more today but I had my 2 little boys with me, stressful to have to quickly figure out if I am close to $25 and my 2 year old is grabbing stuff off the shelves!

  • robin

I went this morning and did 7 separate transactions. I ended up with 7 Cinnamon Toast Crunch; 6 Cheerios; 7 Reeses Puff Cereal; 33 cans of Progresso Soup; and 6 packages Pillsbury Refrigerated Cookie Dough. I paid $3.00 and $2.70 of that was on cookie dough. Everything else was .30 cents. I wish I had understood about the KD prices before I went, I might have structured the cookie dough deal differently. Thanks for the replies to my KD question!

    • Patrice

Did anyone work out a scenario for the soups? I am completely overwhelmed with numbers floating around in my head. Ive already gotten my share of cereal (kix, cinnamon toast crunch, multigrain cheerios) and hamburger helper but wasnt sure about the soup. Thanks for all the support!

      • Tina

        My soup scenario
        13 soups = $13 (or 32.37 shelf price)
        – three $1/4 coupons.
        = $10.
        Receive $10 in Catalinas

You could also do: ($1 less out of pocket)
        12 soups = $12 (29.88 shelf price)
        – three $1/4
        = $9
        Receive $10 in catalinas

Or if you only have two $1/4 coupons:
        11 Soups = $11 (27.39 shelf price)
        – two $1/4
        = $9
        Receive $10 in Catalinas

      • How about:
10 Soups @ $2.49 shelf each (double check at your own store)
        1 chex mix @ $3.39
        Total shelf $28.29
        Total sale $11.69
        Use (2) $1/4 Soup printables
        Use (1) $0.50/1 Chex mix
        Pay $8.69
        Get Back $10
Final Price: $1.31 Money Maker-if your store doubles the DND
(if no doubling- $0.81 Money Maker)

        • Amanda S

I think I found the Chex coupon on Target’s site so at least then DND isn’t an issue. Also, I love getting the total under $10 so I can fill it with necessities like fresh fruit/veggies, milk, bread, etc. 🙂

  • Amanda S

    • Amanda S

Noticed tonight that the Asian Helper I purchased in Transaction #3 was actually on clearance and that’s why it didn’t ring up with the sale price. saw the clearance tag tonight when I was there – it was hidden over a large piece of white paper with some random info on it.

  • Nancy

Thanks so much for these senerios!!

  • gina

Does anyone know if you can use the maufacturers coupons available on the Target site at Acme? I printed them and they do not say from or for Target any where on the coupons.

  • robyn

yep, i use manufacturer’s coupons from the Target site all the time. I actually like them best because they don’t have the Do Not Double label on them.

    • Another site to print from (without the DND) is http://www.couponnetwork.com

      • Amanda S

Thanks for this! I love when they don’t print with DND on them 🙂

      • Laurie

Thank you! My store was hitting the DND button for anything that had DND written on it. I have already exhausted my prints from Target, so I am really grateful you posted this link.

  • Amanda S

Had a great time shopping ACME tonight. I noticed that the Betty Crocker icings have a shelf price of $2.19 (not 2.49) at my store in Medford, NJ, so I had to add in 2 boxes of Totino’s pizza rolls.

  • Maggie

    Dana-
I tried using Chex coupons printed out from the couponnetwork.com link posted above. I was at the Acme in Doylestown and they refused to take the coupons. The lady said there was nothing on the coupon that stated what web site they were from??? Oh well, I ended up paying $6.23 and saved $97 over 3 transactions. Thanks for all your tips!

    • Oh my goodness. They say catalina marketing on them in blue (on the right)…the same company that is operating the maching that the cashier is standing next to. ugh!

      • Maggie

I went to the Acme in Chalfont last night and was able to use some Chex coupons from couponnetwork.com with no problem. I am loving this sale at Acme, but almost need a break from shopping. I’m going to go tonight and do 2 more transactions and then save the catalinas for a later date. Thanks so much!

  • faith

    Nancy,
the burlington, mt holly, and willingboro locations have higher shelf prices….odd, but I have found the smaller stores are always a bit more..so, they are more profitable to shop at with the catalina deals!

  • Lori

Last week I calculated all of the deals without coupons because I didn’t use any. But this week I want to use coupons since I have a bunch! Can someone clarify if the $25 total is calculated before or after coupons? Thanks!

    • Despite the line in the ad, this will print as long as you spend $25 based on the shelf prices of the items at your store! Coupons are not a factor.

  • Laurie

Has anyone done any deals based on the Green Giant Valley Steamers? I need more frozen vegetables, but none of my stores had the promotional sign on the Valley Steamers, so I want to be sure that they’re included before trying it.

    • Lori

I only bought 2 bags. in my store the only ones included in the deal were peas, corn, and broccoli and I’m already stocked on most of those.

    • Amanda S

My store didn’t have any veggie steamer bags marked either. I tried buying the broccoli – made sure it said Valley Fresh Steamers (and there was no sauce) but they didn’t ring up on sale so I had them cancel the transaction and I had to change up my scenario. I asked but they said they didn’t have any. Grrrr…

      • Liz L

I could only find peas and corn that worked with the deal. When I tried the broccoli, it rang up more too.

        • Amanda S

Hmmm…..to try or not to try the peas and corn then. Wonder why they’re not marked?

  • Melinda

What zip code do you use for the Old El Paso printable coupon?

    • Karen

93003 works for the Old El Paso coupons on both coupons.com and freeflys.com. Enjoy.

Does anyone know where I can get a coupon for the fruit roll ups? They are either gone or I am not using the right zip code.

Great site by the way. I am having so much fun shopping this week!! Thanks for all of your hard work. My family and I are grateful.

  • Mandy

Im a bit new to couponing & was all excited about this deal (Im in MD) – I got to the register & the deal did not work! For some reason my catalinas did not print – i started out with 10 hamburger helpers with 3 coupons making my total 5.50. I talked to the manager & she looked at the ad that said = the minimum $25 req. was after manu. coupons & that I had not spent that amount. So even if i didnt have coupons, it still would not have worked based on the sale prices. I tried a few different scenarios, none of which worked & I got my money back & left with my head hung low 🙁 any idea why this did not work for me???

    • Ted

Hi Mandy, sorry you had trouble. I’m new to Acme myself so I will be trying some of the catalina deals today.

I think where you went wrong was the total shelf price for the items. If you bought 10 Hamburger Helpers @ $2.49 shelf price (depending on your store) it would of been a grand total of 24.90, just under the $25 mark. With your coupons it would make it even lower since they count against that total too.

It’s kind of a double edge sword, because you want to save money by using the coupons and paying the least amount of money out of your pocket, but you also have to stay above the $25 shelf price mark to get the catalina. That’s why you’re seeing people put these off the wall deals together.

There’s a few different ways I think you can work the HH deal. You could buy 12 boxes (Shelf Price: $29.88) use 3 of the .75/3 coupons (it seems your store doubles to $1.50 based on your numbers) so that would bring your total shelf price to $25.38 and your OOP to $7.50. There might be a better way to work that, but it’s just as an example off the top of my head.

      Good luck!

      • Laurie

Ted, this is not correct. The ad says that the total must be $25 after coupons, but I (and many others) have done it (a lot) and have found that the only thing that matters is getting the shelf or KnockDown price above $25. Any subsequent coupons or discounts that are added to the order don’t make a difference. Even the $10 OYNO cats are manufacturer coupons, so if this were actually the case, we wouldn’t be able to roll cats.

Mandy, not all varieties of Hamburger Helper are in the deal. I try to get only the ones which are clearly labeled with the little pink sign, just to be certain. Same thing with the frosting, and the soup — some varieties are included, some are not. You might have purchased the wrong items. Also, shelf prices vary from store to store, so you should always double check the math on your scenarios when you are at the store.

Customer service usually can’t/won’t help if you are doing coupon deals like these on catalina sales. If you think you purchased the right items in the right quantities, call Catalina Marketing at 1-888-8COUPON (1-888-826-8766). If you have the right items they’ll send you the coupon.

        • Ted

Ooops, sorry about the false info. I do remember reading that now about the coupons not affecting anything.

    • Hi Mandy,
Do you know what the shelf price of HH is at your store? At my store it’s $2.69…so buying 10 will print the cat. (Coupons are not a factor)

Some people are reporting that there are versions of HH on clearance (I think the Asian ones) that will not count towards the $25. Did you buy any of them? The other possibility is a catalina machine malfunction. In which case you would call the catalina company 1-888-8coupon to get your money.

Don’t give up! This can be frustrating when you first start…but it really is worth it. Good Luck

      • Amanda S

I agree with Dana – double check your shelf prices! I ended up with one of those ‘clearanced’ Asian HH’s at 1.88 but luckily I was still over the threshold with my other items.

Do you still have the register receipt from where you tried? My receipts from Acme show the shelf price on the left hand side. If you have it you can reference there to double check.

  • Mandy

thanks so much for all the help – i think maybe my HH are 2.49 shelf price (although Im not sure…they kept my reciepts when I got my money refunded.) Im going to go back and retry this – although Im going to do only one transaction first so I dont waste so much time if it doesnt work!! Keeping fingers crossed! This time I’ll bring my calculator & work it all out before hand. thank you all so much!

    • Amanda S

Hoped it worked out for ya!!

  • Mandy

so I just called the store to ask them to check on the shelf price of the HH & she said 2.79 – I dont think im going to even try again- its not worth my time:( There’s no reason why this didn’t work for me. total bummer! I wanted to score some free stuff!

  • Ted

Does it matter which progresso soups you buy as long as the shelf prices are the same and not on clearance? There were a lot without the pink tags and I was reluctant to try it on my first transaction ever at Acme because I wasn’t too sure if they were all included in the catalina deal.

    • Yes it does matter! Only “select varieties” will work. That’s what acme writes in the ad every time some flavors are not included. I think the kind I bought was penne chicken but I’m not totally positive because I already mixed it with other progresso soup I already had.

  • Mandy

Ok I went back & did try again – it worked!! apparantly some of the catalina machines were not working for this deal so i just stuck to the one that worked – 7 transactions that totaled 18.64 – YAY!!

    • That’s great news! I’m so glad you tried it again 🙂
