Update on the Travel Size Tide & Aveeno

Well, you know I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I am here to tell about deals both good and bad.   So, here it goes…

::Tide at Walmart

First, the Tide Money Maker at Walmart with the new $2/1 Tide Coupon from the 10/30 PG insert will not work, unless the store manually puts the coupon in.  Apparently, the distributor of the Tide packets is not Tide.  Hmm?  And, therefore, the coupons will beep because the UPC that is used on the Tide Travel Packets is not a Proctor & Gamble UPC.  Hmm again!  Here is the message on the Tide Facebook page:

Hmm?!?  Were we suppose to know that?  #justsayin!

::Aveeno at CVS

Okay, next….the Aveeno Money Maker at CVS on the trial size 1 oz Aveeno is not producing the ECB.  My first thought is that it is a misprint in the ad.  Maybe it should have said, 5-18 oz instead of 0.5 – 18 oz.  Or, maybe it’s for a particular Aveeno product.  I’m not sure right now but I am sure that the trial size is not producing the ECB.  Will the 2.5 oz work?  At this point I do not know.

I am trying to reach out to my contact at CVS in the hopes of finding out exactly what the situation is.

I’ll post as soon as I know more.

…..This has been a special Deal Update report.  You may now resume eating all the cheap chocolate you just bought ;)

Cheap chocolate would go great with my diet cola!! Thank you for the heads up! It is disappointing to go to a store all pumped for a real deal and then not have it work out – and you wondering what you did wrong!

Cindy –
I was going out this afternoon in search of cheap chocolate and saw your deal idea for CVS. I didn’t notice that it was to start tomorrow. :( I asked about the Aveeno ECB when it didn’t print. The manager was ringing me up and said they had already activated tomorrow’s sales, so it should have printed. I pointed it out to him in the ad and he manually made it print!! So it worked for me!!! THANK YOU!!!! I also went to Target to look for the Crest Complete on clearance. At my store the clearance price was $2.54. I used my $2 off coupons to make it $0.54 but to make it even BETTER, I had a Target Mobile Coupon for $1 off of any Crest 3D White oral product, so that worked too so I got $4.60 in overage to apply to the rest of my order. (I had 10 coupons) YEAH!!! Thanks for all you do to keep us posted about the deals!!!

Reply

Jennifer K. October 29, 2011 at 10:32 pm

How does that work since you can only use the target mobile coupons once?

Reply

Tami October 30, 2011 at 10:49 am

The girl wasn’t able to actually scan it so she had to put it in manually and she put it in once for each item I had.

Reply

Anonymous October 30, 2011 at 9:52 pm

That is EXACTLY why coupon policies are becoming more and more strict. Target mobile coupons very clearly state that is one per customer. You are abusing the system.

Weird, I went out this morning picked up the tide deal at Wal-Mart and picked up the CVS deal later in the afternoon. The store clerk manually printed the ECB’s.

Cindy October 29, 2011 at 9:33 pm

Did your coupon beep at Walmart? That is the problem. They are all beeping.

Reply

Anonymous October 29, 2011 at 9:37 pm

I also got the Tide dea at the walmart in west deptford, nj. I don’t know if it beeped or not but the cashier never questioned it.

Reply

Peggy October 29, 2011 at 9:45 pm

yes but they manually entered the $2.00 off.

They are right. I had a packet left that I got for free with the $1 of any Tide coupons from a mailer I recd. They are not distributed by P&G. But if the $1 coupon worked why wouldnt the $2???

brandi October 29, 2011 at 9:37 pm

That tide thing sounds like a bunch of bologna. It sounds like they are tired of us using this q and getting paid for it. Im sure they would much rather us use it on a $9 box of tide.

Reply

Jerrica October 29, 2011 at 9:42 pm

I did the same thing, I went to walmart and got .50 off the travel tide packs. The register did beep, but it just soo happened that the store manager was there and she looked the coupon over and said no size restriction, soo she let me get them.

I had a $2 off Tide coupon that expires 10/31 that did not have a size restriction. I tried to use it with the travel size Tide and it did not go through. The cashier questioned the manager and the manager said since the coupon had a picture of powder detergent and the trial size I was trying to buy was a liquid, it wouldn’t work. I didn’t have time to fight them over it though, ugh.

Patrice October 29, 2011 at 10:07 pm

I’m a little confused b/c a few month back their was a coupon for $1.50/2. I used those at target on the travel packs and they went through.

i also cannot use any of these type of tide qpons i have had many with no size but was told the picture dont match and i need a big bottle so i no longer try to use them i have been shamed enough i rather keep my pride and buy a regular size

i really think there should be some type of mandatory coupon training…even a signle booklet would suffice of the stores coupon policy when an employee starts. every employee at my local wal-mart has a different idea of what works and its a freaking joke. i’m honestly considering the idea of having the coupon policy printed up for walmart and handing it out at my local store. i have actually began to HATE wal-mart b/c i know i’m going to have to argue my way through everything. i just cannot even begin to have patience for someone who thinks the exact item has to be pictured even when the q says ANY. i even had a huge issue with a brita pitcher q…wouldn’t take it b/c it said $4 off any Brita Pitcher OR Faucet Mount! The MANAGER insisted i had to buy the faucet mount?! she actually screamed at me that there was no way she would except the coupon on the pitcher! i did report her and was told if i have a coupon that i honestly think should work and no one will except to ask for a salaried manager? she said there is always someone higher up…don’t give up if you feel you’re correct. why can’t others be like that?!!

I agree, and I now carry a copy of the WalMart coupon policy with me.

Reply

Judy October 29, 2011 at 11:51 pm

Oh tell me about it. The other day I was lucky enough to find three of the rechargable oral-b toothbrushes and used 3 $10 off coupons. The clerk advised me that there was no way that the coupon was ment for that toothbrush even though it met the criteria for the coupon and that she wouldn’t accept it without even trying to ring it up! My husband politely took back the coupons and the toothbrushes, we went two checkouts down from her and checked out with no problem getting three great Christmas presents for less than $3 each!

I found the Oral B rechargeable toothbrushes yesterday at Walmart and the coupons scanned with no problem. I had 3, I was so excited! The cashier even said what a great deal!

I have recently spoke to a true manager at one of my local wamarts after being given a HARD time by a cashier and CMS. He was very nice and told me that every register has a laminated coupon cheat sheet for the cashier to refer to if they arent sure of a policy. He told me not to be afraid to as them to refer to it, this also includes the CMSs. I havent had to yet but will do it if I run into a problem. Im not sure if this is local or at all walmarts.

Ugh, I had a bad run-in with WM last week. Found the shick MM deal and the cashier had been there fore 7 years and thought she knew it all and said she could reduce my Q. I was not happy, but said ok, because I was still getting them for free. Well then my tide Q beeped and she called over the manager, who said it was fine, and the cashier asked about the shick Q and the higher up had to come over and tell her it was ok to use the full amount of the Q. Thank God. I feel bad doing that, but I was right, had the Q policy in my hand and she still didn’t care.
Also had a bad run in with Target where I was fighting over using a target Q and a manufacturers Q, said I couldn’t get overage, and I mentioned that the store would still get the full amount of the coupon reimbursed, and she was like “it doesn’t work like that” grr, people need Q training at these stores!!

Reply

ann marie October 30, 2011 at 11:09 am

Just so you know the store does not get the full amount, the store get how much their product costs. That is a misunderstanding.

Reply

Ruth Jenkins October 30, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Unless the coupons have a place to write the value in, like the buy one, get one free, the store does get the full amount. The process is described below, it is an educational article. It would virtually impossible for the clearing house to match the price of the item in every transaction each or even to double check if the coupon was used for the right product, that doesn’t mean that is is morally right for people to use a coupon for the wrong size, etc. Using coupons honestly benefits everyone.

The Coupon Process
If you use coupons, you know that when you reach the check out counter, you hand the cashier your coupon(s). The cashier scans them and puts them into the cash drawer. What happens next depends on the store, but here’s a typical process. At the end of the day the coupons in each cash drawer are added up as if they were cash, and that amount is added to the cash sum to be sure the overall total for the drawer is accurate. Then all of the manufacturers’ coupons (and any coupons issued by the grocer) are sent in plastic bags or pouches to the store’s corporate headquarters, typically once a week.

In the big store chains, the value of the coupons can easily total several million dollars per week. There is a person in headquarters in charge of processing the coupons. That person boxes all of the bags of coupons (still separated by the individual stores from which they came) and ships them to a third-party clearinghouse.

This is where the real work starts. The clearinghouse has to sort through millions of coupons, largely by hand. The first goal is to separate the coupons by manufacturer. Another goal is to separate coupons with scannable UPC codes from damaged (torn, smudged, etc.) coupons. This is so much hand work that some clearinghouses pay other clearinghouses — in Mexico, for example — to do part of the work. One system places scannable coupons face up on a conveyor belt, where they are moved along under a scanner that reads the UPC codes and tallies the amounts, then adds up the total value of each manufacturers’ coupons. Damaged coupons that can’t be scanned have to be sorted by hand and added up separately. The other system is to do the whole thing by hand. The clearinghouse then sends all the sorted coupons with an invoice to the manufacturer.

Several things can happen here. The manufacturer might reimburse the clearinghouse for the amount of the invoice, and the clearinghouse will send a check to the store for the amount of the coupons. Or the manufacturer will send a check directly to the store and the store then pays the clearinghouse. The clearinghouse is paid a certain amount per coupon by the store, plus shipping and handling. The whole cycle takes about a month. In many cases, the manufacturer will recount the coupons to avoid fraud — a process that may send the coupons through another clearinghouse!

Target coupon policy and many stores DO NOT allow coupon overage. Walmart is one of the few stores that do. Maybe stores wouldn’t give coupon users such a hard time if people actually read and accepted their printed coupon policies!!!

I went and tried with the trial size. No ECB’s printed during my transaction and I wasnt going to say anything, but decided it was worth a try. The cashier directed me to the manager and I showed him how it says moisturizing lotion and the size was within the restrictions, so he printed the $7 for me.

Reply

Linda Hughes October 29, 2011 at 11:42 pm

I went to my CVS tonight and the ECB didn’t print for the trial sizes, I questioned the cashier after looking at my receipt and she said it won’t work on the travel size and I showed her the ad that it shows 0.5 oz and up so she called over the manager and he told her to print out my $7! Yay!! :) Sometimes you get lucky.

I also had problems and the store manager printed out the $7 reward.

Judy October 29, 2011 at 11:45 pm

Our CVS activates the deals the day before as well and it didn’t print the ECB for the $7. The clerk went to the assistant manager and she said it was a misprint and that I was cheating the store if I expected to get the deal. I told her that they have deals all the time that end up being money makers and how was I suppose to know that it was a misprint. It was suppose to be 2.5 ounces according to her. She reluctantly told the clerk to print the ECB for me. However, when I was getting my bags out of my buggy and she apparently thought I was out of earshot, she bee lined to the clerk and started talking about how I was not better than a theif cheating the store and how dare I ask for the ECB based on buying the sample size. Since I have more dignity than she obviously has, I quietly left the store, but I will be writing a heated email to corporate tomorrow.

Reply

Ruth October 30, 2011 at 4:27 pm

Some managers shouldn’t be in that position. I couldn’t have stayed quiet but you did the right thing. Corporate will have a long talk with her, good customer service is very important to CVS. One of the front end managers who tried to humiliate me at Giant no longer has her job. Since couponing is more popular now, some managers and employees feel the right the express their opinion and talk about couponers. The only to deal with these people is to get their names and send an email or call their corporate office. Even if one is wrong, they want to keep their customers happy.
I’m a heavy coupon shopper and I made a business out of it so I come across rude store personnel at least once a week. However, in the stores where I shop, I have seen change and I have received several gift cards as apology for rude behavior. Store personnel are instructed to keep their opinions to themselves and every time they put their foot in their mouth, they will get in trouble. Some stores are better than others about enforcing good customer service but at places like Giant, CVS, Walgreens, reporting rude employees does work and makes life easier for other couponers.

Judy October 30, 2011 at 5:12 pm

Thanks ladies! Just finished sending off my email. I never have had an issue at CVS before. She really rattled my chain, especially since she was mouthing off about me infront of other customers that were waiting to be rung up. Usually the clerks are as excited as I am about seeing how good of deal things are. There must be something with a store that starts with “Wal” though, because those are usually were clerks have melt downs upon seeing you get a good deal. I must shout Kudos out to Rite Aid — the clerks there always are cheerful, even bright and early on a Sunday morning and have never been anything less than helpful. It is def my favorite place to shop!

Reply

Jen October 31, 2011 at 4:54 am

i agree with you 100% about rite aid employees…i visit them almost every sunday morning at 10 00 am and they always have a smile on their face! there’s even a clerk at the one rite aid who HATES coupons, just despises them. she thinks they should jsut mark all the items down and be done with it. she is one of the grumpiest people i’ve ever met but she does try to make the best out of it. so even someone like that who i do think hates her job…trys to be polite and helpful. i wish walmart would take a lesson!

Thanks for the update Cindy. I suspect the aveeno is for the small eye cream, that is probably .5 oz, but it is pricey. Also, apparently Target has small bottles of Tide for $2.99 (6 loads), so wondering if the coupon can be used on those. There may be a Target coupon to stack with it.

I just got back from CVS, and like everyone else I had to stand my ground to get the Aveeno ECB. The manager told me I was incorrect as she held the flyer in her hand, but after much insisting on my part that I was not trying to “rip off her store”, she had the clerk issue me the ECB. The manager announced that she was heading to the travel section to pull all of the Aveeno lotion they had.

Just letting everyone know that I just got back from CVS. I bought the 2.5oz Aveeno moisturizing cream and the ECB’s generated with no problem. I also used the $3 off any two Aveeno products coupon that was in the paper this weekend. The two creams cost me $5.04 after tax in Maryland.

I was able to use my $7 ECB on my second transaction where I bought 6 cover girl blushes and two Cover Girl Eye Shadows (used 3 CG $8 off 2 face products and one $2.50 off two CG products coupons). I also purchased one Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner and used a coupon ($3 off two products). I also purchased two dawn detergents using coupons (.20 off any dawn). I used my $7 ECB to bring my total down to virtually nothing and earned a $10 gift card. :)

The ECB did not print, but before I even rang up the transaction, I asked the clerk if the Daily Moisturing Lotion was a part of the ECB deal and she said she thought it should be, but if the ECB didn’t print out, she would just force it. In the end, she had to force it, but I think because I asked ahead of time, there was no problems.

Oh Aveeno… so I stopped at a store on my way into the city (Philly) that I knew had the trial size Aveeno lotions. They did not generate any ECB – I thought the deal was too good to be true, so no problem. Then I went to my regular CVS and purchased 2 12oz lotions as I had the $3 coupon. Each lotion had a $1 peelie. End of transaction, ECB didn’t generate again, but this time I had them override the system and issue the ECBs – clearly I was within the guidelines. So $5 in coupons, $7 in ECB, got 2 lotions for $4 each – pretty good for a $10 each lotion. I bought some other items as well and ended up earning $2 when all was said an done – good day at the CVS!

So I just checked my receipt and the Aveeno I bought was on special 2/$13 (was not tagged that way) or $6.50 each which is probably why the ECB didn’t trigger. But with the $7 ECB, $3 off 2, and 2 x $1 peelie, I ended up spending only 50 cents each on 12oz Aveeno lotions! Great deal!

After going to TWO different CVS’s to try to locate the Aveeno 2.5 oz (both locations only had one each), I was finally able to find the 1 oz travel size at the 3rd CVS. They were $1.49 each so I thought I would give it a shot. When I put them on the counter, the cashier very politely told me that they were not working on the ECB deal. He explained that only the products pictured in the circular would work for the deal. I thanked him & re-worked my purchase. (Still hoping to find another location with two of the 2.5 oz bottles)

I went today to get the Tide liquid trial size pack with the $2.00 coupons, Aveeno trial size lotions, Bounty paper towels, 3pk size Cascades and Old Spice trial size body washes. I’m a firm believer that most of the time it’s the cashier you get. I ended up with a nice one that put all the coupons through, no issues. Ended up getting the Tide with the $2.00 coupons (had a nice overage! :) ) and the Aveeno’s with the $3.00/2 and $1.00/1. Ended up with free Aveeno lotions and an overage there too. Had coupons for the Cascade action packs (no size restrictions) and ended up getting a few for less than $0.50 each pack. Bounty 1 roll paper towels were $1.00 each. Had the coupons from the P&G that are exp on the 31st of October, I believe, and ended up with a bunch for about $0.50 each. The Old Spice was a coupon for $1.00/2. Ended up with quite a few travel sized ones for less than $0.50 each. Also, found Gillette body wash for $3.00 on an endcap in the store. I had a $2.00 off coupon, so was able to get it for $1.00.

Just letting you guys know in case there’s anyone that doesn’t shop Rite Aid, CVS or Walgreens and still wants to get deals with the soon-to-expire coupons :) . Have a blessed day! :)

Harris Teeter is doing Super Double Coupons this week, and they have Aveeno Active Naturals Moisturizer – Colloidal Oatmeal (1 oz) for $1.50… Use the 1/$1.00 or 2/$1.50 to get for FREE + MONEYMAKER!

I was able to use the $2.00/1 Tide at Target. They had 6 load travel bottles for $2.99, I got 3 of them for $.99 each. I also had $1.00/1 that I used on a trial size, they changed it to $.97, so I had no overage, but that’s okay it was still free. I also found Crest Complete there for $2.49 with a free floss sample and small sample bottle of Scope. Used my $2.00/1 and got it for $.49.

What Target? I can’t find the 6 load travel bottles anywhere and my sister is moving back to her home after the divorce, I promised her I’d help her stock up on all necessities so I’ve got Tide coupons to spare!

went to walmart today to get the tide deal and i was going to use the overage on baby food bc i had a buy 16 jars of baby food get 2.00 off so for 16 jars of baby food and the 2 tides I would have paid 2 and change after the overage but the cashier gave me a hard time about the tide coupon and I had her call over a manager who kept telling me that I had to buy the exact picture the coupon had on it so I told her to go to the laundry soap aisle and look at all the different sizes and types of Tide and that what she said made no sense..so after arguing with them for a good 20 minutes I gave up and left and didnt buy the tide or baby food and said I was calling corporate because they were extremely rude. I tried explaining that she should know the coupon policy and walmart gives overage and she kept telling me no. I left because there was a long line of people in back of me making faces and making comments and I didnt want them to think I was to cheap to buy a 97cent thing of tide I just really wanted the overage for the baby food. Walmart is not my favorite store anymore

i sure hope you did report them to corporate. i decided every time a cashier or a manager is rude to me at all, i’m reporting them. maybe if they keep hearing the same thing over anf over they’ll get the point. who the heck ever came up with the idea that the exact item has to be pictured needs to be punched in the freaking head, at least twice!! i’ve had it with being treated like crap b/c i use coupons. i know they’re people out there who abuse the usage of coupons and kinda ruin it for everyone else…but guess what? i’m not that person! and i don’t have a choice but to use coupons…unless someone can hand me a job that my pathetic excuse of a 26 year old body can handle and transport me there as well! we have 1 income and a rather large furry and scaly family…we can’t just neglect them!

I did make a complaint..this is the second complaint Ive made towards this store and they say ok we will contact you once this is resolved and havent heard anything..I just wont be shopping at that walmart anymore because they are extremely rude..and I know how you feel..im 25 and my husband is 23 and we have a 6 month old baby and im not working at the moment so we use coupons to save us a lot of money because with one income we can’t afford a lot.

Im wondering if contacting the better business bureau would be helpful? I cannot seem to get anywhere with calling corporate…or maybe I should just stay the heck outta wal-mart! Not only do their coupon hating cashiers suck…but so does their Love Letter Set!!! I bought this craft kit, has 4 3-D cardboard letters included, to spell out the word love, and all kinds of stuff to decorate them. I paid $8.00 for it, not bad considering it will be a gift from 4 kids :) Anyway we sat down to decorate them the other night and I swear all I got done was re sticking what I already stuck! They had stickers that covered the edges and the fronts and backs…they’re all laying out there on the counter peeled off and curled up. The stickers feel extremely sticky and when I would try to re-position them on the letters, it would tear the paper right off! So needless to say its a piece of you know what!
