WOW – you have to wait until August to see the rewards!!! I wonder why so long.

Very strange – Staples emailed me the same coupon, but mine says the rewards will be given in Feb, not August. Otherwise it is exactly the same as Cindy’s.

If you read the fine print, it says the rewards will be on the February Statement…so I think the “August” is from the time they did this in July! lol

Hi Kay, first you get your Staples Rewards card from Staples. (you can also make your first purchase at that time). Then go online and register your rewards card with Staples. Your receipt should show up in a few days in your account. If it is not there you can enter it in.

Right now the 25% rewards means all eligible purchases you will receive 25% “back” through the rewards program. The rewards cycle ends every few months, then you can print out a $X.XX voucher for money off any purchase. Reader Fran says you won’t get this reward until August, which is longer than usual. Sometimes Staples has 100% back rewards which is great, meaning you get 100% of the purchase price back in rewards. The only downside to this program is that you have to keep track of your receipts, make sure you get credit for all eligible purchases, then remember to print out your voucher and use it by the expiration date. In the end, you are investing a portion of your money for future purchases at Staples to receive discounts and “FREE” items.
I use this program for $1.00 500 sheet ream paper, discounts on ink, FREE batteries, FREE file folders, FREE file boxes, and discounts on many, many other items. Staples dollar days are also great. Just watch the weekly ad, it is always advertised there.

To track the rewards and rebate checks of all stores I keep a file folder with a list of how much I should be getting back for each purchase. This way I don’t forget about any of them (some take a few months), and I can update all of them easily at once. Hope that helps!!

Wow Laura that was such a great explanation! I learned a lot from it and I use the Staples rewards. Thanks : ) Just to add a note which I just recently learned is that you can’t use your rewards to buy other rewards items. I guess you can but, you just won’t get the new rewards. Basically they don’t let you roll them!

Thanks for all this great info. I am getting ready to “graduate” from just ShopRite and CVS and may now do Staples!

@Karen, that’s funny! I am getting ready to “graduate” from SR and Staples, and may now do CVS!!

At any rate, some further info to add to Laura D.’s great explanation:
You earn rewards with your purchases of ink and toner, case and ream paper purchases and copy and print services, and, sometimes, on other items that Staples may decide to add for different promotions. Normally, I believe it is 10% of your purchase on the qualifying products (e.g. Buy a $30 ink cartridge, earn $3 in Rewards).

More details on the Staples® Rewards Program (“Program”) Terms and Conditions (“Terms”), which lists the allowable items and T&C, can be found at the following address. Since I am not sure it is appropriate to add direct links, you will have to add the “www dot” (no space) before this address when putting it into your browser: staplesrewardscenter.com/SORC/UserManagement/Login/RewardsTerms.aspx

Staples also offers Easy Rebates which are like mail-in-rebates, but, are much easier because they are done online. Although they are easier, and don’t require stamps (yay!), they do take about as long as a MIR to get/be available (approx. 60 days). Another plus, though, is that you can choose to receive it in either a check mailed to you, or, you can put it into your PayPal account, if you have one. This is where those great $1 reams of paper come in that Laura D. mentioned. I just recently paid $5.99 for a package of paper and am getting $4.99 back as an easy rebate (note: usually, these are a limit of two, but, they almost always have a different brand of paper available for this each month)!

In addition, you can also earn ink recycling rewards whereby you get $2 back per cartridge that you recycle. It used to be a limit of 10 per month, now I believe it is a limit of 20. You get this reward separate from your other rewards.

I have been a Rewards program member for a looong time and I highly recommend it to others. Keep in mind, though, that as mentioned elsewhere on this thread, when you do use them to purchase rewards-eligible products on another purchase, they do deduct that amount from your new eligible amount (i.e. they don’t roll).

Lastly, if you are already a Rewards member, and you received this promotion in your mail, do use the one you got, instead. It does say you will earn the reward in February, as opposed to this one, which says August, AND, it does not seem to exclude HP ink and toner purchases as this one does. Either way, though, to use them, you will have to use your Rewards card in conjunction with it, so, sign up ASAP – it’s worth it!

do you have to go into a store to get the card? do you have to make a purchase at that time to be able to register it? can you do the same deals and earn the same rewards shopping online? and i’m a little confused about the payout. you get cash rabates but then the rewards are different?
sorry to ask so many questions, you all did an awesome job explaining this. I too am ready to graduate from shoprite/cvs and add staples mostly for printing paper and keurig coffee. but i’ve moved here from canada and have never shopped a staples in the US yet! thanks!

sorry one more Q! what are “full refund” products in the ad? is that the MIR or online rebate? can you do more than one item and send one receipt for all your rebates or do you have to split it up?

I can tell you are ready to jump in – good luck, and, welcome to the States! This, and, anything anyone adds, should get you going:

Go onto staples.com and check out the lower left hand box called Ways to Save. There is a link for both the Staples Rewards and the Rebate Center (aka Easy Rebates). Click on the Staples Rewards link and it brings you to a screen where you can enroll online. Once you are a member, you have to create a login to work with the program online. You’ll be able to track your rewards, and print them from here if you’ll use them in-store. You can also track your ink cartidge recycles here, though they separate them from the main rewards. It’s been awhile since I ordered online (I just prefer, okay, love, going through all the aisles at the store!), however, I believe you earn the same rewards for your online purchases that qualify under the program (paper, ink, etc.) and you don’t have to make a purchase to join. I think there is a pin number attached to them that you would probably enter somewhere on the order screen.

The Rewards you earn here, can only be used at Staples, so, these are more like catalina OYNOs. Since I do mostly in-store, I print mine out. When you use them on a purchase, though, they (and coupons) are deducted from the value of any new rewards you might earn in that purchase. The 100% rewards are promo items whereby you get your full purchase price back (minus rewards and coupons you used to buy them), rather than just the usual rewards which are only 10% of certain items (paper, ink, copy/print). You’ll find they offer this a lot on things like batteries, binders, etc.

Yes the (Easy) Rebates program is slightly different from the Rewards program. Click on the Rebate Center link after your purchase and it brings you to the screen to enter the rebate info from your receipt (just two sets of numbers). You can do this for in-store, or, online purchases. This is akin to MIRs and you have your choice of a payout via a check mailed to you, or, payment submitted to your PayPal account. You can use this cash anywhere, it is not limited to Staples. There is usually a limit on these. For the ream paper that I usually do it for, the limit is two of the items. And if you do buy two of them in the same transaction, it automatically captures the fact that you bought two, so, you don’t have to enter it twice.

I’m not sure of doing the same deals, though, since they usually involve coupons, which you wouldn’t be able to use online. The earnings for rewards and rebates, though, can be done online. All in all, I think you will enjoy what they offer!

How does this work on the items that are free after rewards? It says that standard rewards will be excluded, but will the promo rewards be excluded? So, if I use this coupon in a transaction with free after rewards items, as well as non-free items, will it only give me 25% rewards on the free after rewards items?
Thanks!

If you use this coupon with FREE after rewards items, you will NOT get an additional 25%back. You will get the 100%back, not 125%. On the same transaction you will get 25%back on any items that qualify. I tried to read the fine print on my coupon, but even with a magnifying glass it was too small and smudgy on my printout. On regular reward items that are usually 10%back (paper, ink, copy/print) you will receive 25%back in rewards, not 10%, not 35%. I hope this helps. I think you will really enjoy the rewards program!
