My Shopping Trip: CVS for a Profit of $5!

My Shopping Trip: ShopRite

Last night I stopped in at ShopRite to grab a few more of the Tyson Grilled and Ready Chicken Stips and the Hefty Trash Bags.  I spent about $10 in 2 transactions there.

Today, was pretty sweet at CVS.  Remember, those Schick and Skintimate ECBs that were printing a couple of weeks ago?  Well, they are printing again.  And, they even had the signs up again. Yep, buy Skintimate or Schick (see varieties working below) and get a $4 ECB.

I went there for the Kellogg’s (since they were all out last night at ShopRite).  Once I saw that the Schick was working, I quickly came up with a deal to buy them, the Kellogg’s Cereal and use my $10 off $50 CVS coupon that is expiring tomorrow.

Here is what I scored:

::CVS

Transaction:

  • 10 Raisin Bran Cereal $2.33 each
  • 4 Schick Shave Gel Sensitive $3.99 each (this seems to be the only one working)
  • 2 Skintimate Shaving Gel Dry Skin $3.59 each (this also seems to be the only working)
  • 3 Eclipse Gum

Coupons Used:

  • $10/50 CVS Coupon
  • -(2)$5/5 Kellogg’s Cereal Coupon
  • -(1)$0.55/1 Skintimate Coupon (from a Free Schick Womens Razor package)
  • -$28 ECB
  • -$2 ECB
  • Tax:  $1.46

Paid out of pocket: $0.39
Received:
$24 ECB (Schick/Skintimate)
Received:
$2 ECB (Eclipse Gum)
Submitting: $10 Kellogg’s Gas Card Rebate
Final Cost: Profit of $5.61

Then I made a much needed trip to the Farmer’s Market where I spent $20.14And, I will be heading to ShopRite this afternoon for the Dollar Days Deals and the Smart Balance Catalina Deal!

Total Savings including sale prices and coupons: $76.62 which I will be adding to the LRWC Reader’s Grocery Savings Counter.  Be sure to add your savings so we can see how much we have all saved in 2012

Do you empty the envies every month? Or do you keep the cash in them?

Reply

Cindy February 19, 2012 at 2:53 pm

Nope I do not empty them every month. I roll the money over for when I need to make larger purchases like meat, etc.

Reply

Alona February 19, 2012 at 2:57 pm

Ah ok, cause the 600 sounded a bit high for groceries that’s all….. Makes sense now. =)

Cindy February 19, 2012 at 3:02 pm

It’s been collecting and building for quite a long time. I never seem to be able to spend it all. A few months ago I spend some of it to buy new shelving for my stockpile. I’m going to be using some of it to buy a new freezer soon since my broke.

Diamond February 19, 2012 at 2:57 pm

How often do you get those $10 off $50 coupons?? I know you had previously gotten one and used it already. I shop at my CVS quite a bit and I have never gotten one of those.

Reply

Mary February 19, 2012 at 3:02 pm

Are you signed up online, Diamond? I get the coupons periodically. I got a 5. off 30. last week.

Reply

Diamond February 19, 2012 at 3:09 pm

Yes, I am signed up online. I get the $5 off $30′s but haven’t yet seen a $10 off $50. Didn’t know if maybe my purchase amounts before coupons needed to be higher. Thanks

Reply

Cindy February 19, 2012 at 3:03 pm

I even got one today too. I never got them before but the last 3 times I made a larger purchase, I received them.

Reply

Diamond February 19, 2012 at 3:12 pm

Thanks Cindy, I thought maybe I needed to have higher purchase. I try to stay smaller to utilize my ECB’s so I have less OOP. Plus I am new at this and I sometimes get frazzled keeping track of large deals.

I keep getting $3/$15, literally had 10 of them in past month.

Btw – red printed $3/$10 healthcare coupon This morning- went nicely with the Tylenol/cold calm deals…

For the Kellogg’s gas card does this apply to all cereal?is it specially marked?and do you have to include a receipt? Also where can I get the CVS $10 off $50 coupon?

Here is the link where you will find all the info for the rebate…how much, when, which cereals, sizes, deadlines, etc. You can also do a search on Cindy’s site to see other postings and reader comments about the rebate.

Can anyone still find the $5/5 Kellogg’s coupon?

Cindy, thank you SO much for this post. I missed the Schick/Skintimate deal the last time it was going. My boyfriend and I saw this post directly after coming home from shopping, gathered our coupons, ECB’s, binder and headed out the door lol – We ran one just to see if it works. I had a bunch of $1/1 Skintimate gel – Hooray for $12 profits!! Thank you again :)

Cindy, while I think that its great to tally up your savings for the year, i should start doing it myself, i dont think including savings for things which you would end up donating/giving away makes alot of sense, including the last time time they had the shave gel deal on, will you be using all of those shave gels? i definitely gave away most of mine, which were only like 6 to begin with. my husband gives away most of the free cereal i get :D unless its one of his favourites ofcourse. lol so i would be happy i shared but i wouldnt count those items as having saved anything, i wouldnt have bought them if i had to pay for them!
Sorry i hope you dont take any offense.

Reply

Cindy February 19, 2012 at 4:03 pm

Not quite sure what you are referring to. I am not listing my savings for the year on the post. It only shows how much I saved on that particular transaction had I paid retail for it. And the grocery envelopes are what I have spent and what I still have. But, I am actually not donating these items. There are 5 of us in this house that use these and with kids in college, the shaving creams magically disappear all the time so you can never have too many.

Reply

rc February 19, 2012 at 4:05 pm

I see :D

Yes i was referring to the grocery envelopes, your total savings for the year.

Reply

Cindy February 19, 2012 at 4:11 pm

That’s not my total savings for the year. I put in my grocery envelopes $150 every 2 weeks for groceries. My budget is to stay under $75 each week. When I shop, I just take money out of my envelope to pay. The money you see is the money that has just rolled over from week to week that I haven’t spent. Since I only wind up spending about $50 a week on my groceries, I have a surplus. As the weeks go on, it gets bigger and bigger until I decide to use it for something else or make a larger purchase of meat, etc. Hope that makes sense.

allie February 19, 2012 at 4:05 pm

Cindy,

To use the $10/$50 coupon how close to $50 does an order need to be, or any of those $3/$15 or $4/$20? Adding yours up it seemed to add up to $49.47 or so–does it just have to be near the amount by $.50 or so? Do you know the rule? And my CVS won’t use my EBs toward tax, how did you pay so little with the high tax amount? Thanks! :) Job well done on your shopping trip! Thanks for everything!

Reply

Cindy February 19, 2012 at 4:16 pm

Well, I would normally say $50 but it seems to have come off slightly below that this time. The shelf tags on the Schick and Skintimate showed them as $4.49 and $4.19. I added the gum in to be over $50. My total at the register, before I gave her my $10/$50 coupon was over $50. I gave her to coupon and it scanned no problem.

However, when I got home, I realized that the Skintimate and Schick rang up for less then the shelf tag which didn’t bring the total to exactly $50. So, it seemed to have been including the tax, which it usually does not. Also, my last ECB to hand over was a $2 ECB and I thought for sure it wouldn’t come off because it would have been taking off tax, but it did that too.

allie February 19, 2012 at 4:19 pm

Thanks! I was just curious because sometimes they take some tax of with ECBs, but most of the time they don’t. THanks again for all of your matchups!

Shannon February 19, 2012 at 4:09 pm

Thank you so much for posting this, I just got home and ended up with two of each. The Schick Shave Gel Sensitive at my CVS had $2.00 off peelies on them which made it even nicer. I did have to go to 2 CVS’s since one didn’t have any of the men’s in stock and the first only had 2 women’s left. Neither of the ones I went to had the sign up.

Reply

Julie February 20, 2012 at 10:12 pm

Exactly the same at my store! No signs up in my store and nothing in the flyer, but the varieties Cindy posted are working! I also noted( and used) the $2 peelies on the Schick Sensitive. There were no peelies on any of the others though.

Alexandra February 19, 2012 at 4:26 pm

Hi,

Can someone please explain the specifics of this Schick ECB deal (i.e. offer limits, number of products needed to qualify for ECBs etc.) I didn’t notice anything about it in the circular. Thanks!

Reply

Anonymous February 19, 2012 at 4:39 pm

I bought 4 Schlick hydro for sensitive skin at 3.99 each. There was a 2 dollar peelie on each so I paid 8 bucks total and received a 16 dollar ecb.

Reply

Kahyla February 21, 2012 at 12:31 pm

I got those peelies too! I was super excited about that!

Reply

michelle s February 19, 2012 at 5:11 pm

Yes if someone could explain it would be very helpful? Is there a limit?

Reply

Haseena February 19, 2012 at 8:14 pm

When this was working last time the limit was 100 per household…there were no sign at my cvs today, but I am assuming its the same because on my recipt it shows how many I have bought, and I was able to get 2 last time and I got 4 today and on my receipt it shows I have purchased 6 so far. Its $4.00 ECB per product. They are on sale this week for $3.99 and if you find the ones with the $2.00 peelie than its a $2.00 money maker per product. And make sure you buy the right ones. The only two that seem to be working are mentioned by Cindy in the above post.

Reply

Ruth February 19, 2012 at 5:23 pm

I was just at my Cvs and there was no signs alluding to the ecb. Should I have tried anyway?? I am off tomorrow and can go back.

Reply

Haseena February 19, 2012 at 5:45 pm

My store didn’t have the sings, but I bought 4 anyways and they all had $2.oo peelies and the ECB printed…a great little money maker :)

Reply

Nikki February 19, 2012 at 5:48 pm

For me, there was no signs where the shave gel was. However, we did spot one sign on the Schick razors. We took one to the register to test out the waters and if it didn’t work, oh well. It turns out it did. I’d recommend going back and giving it a go.

Reply

kelli February 19, 2012 at 6:33 pm

specifically which shave gels are on sale, i.e. the tag price and ounces? I want to try this but dont want to mess up!

Reply

Dee February 19, 2012 at 7:21 pm

It seems only the ones mentioned in the post Schick Men’s sensitive skin for $3.99 and Skintimate Women’s dry skin for $3.59. No signs anywhere in CVS for this deal, but the ECB printed for the 3 I purchased. I tried a Skintimate for sensitive skin 10z and it did not print the ECB.

Reply

Laura February 19, 2012 at 9:48 pm

There were no signs at my CVS, but it worked tonight on the types that Cindy posted. Plus I found 2 with $2 off peelies!!

Reply

Andrea February 19, 2012 at 5:34 pm

Thanks for the posting. I was only able to buy 2 of the woman’s shave cream. I went to 2 different stores and neither had the men’s sensitive in stock. Luckily the 2 I was able to get had the 2.00 peelies.

Reply

Peter February 19, 2012 at 11:11 pm

Worked here in East Islip, NY. I bought 2 Schick Sensitive Gels and used 2 peelies to make a profit. Let’s just hope this deal doesn’t get abused like last time. Otherwise, it’ll be revoked midweek (like last time).

Reply

Julie February 20, 2012 at 10:16 pm

I wonder if CVS is doing this deal without any notice on purpose so people don’t go crazy on it?

Reply

i bought 4 skintimate shavving creams (the ones u have shown) last night because they were on sale for $3.59 n they had a $2.00 peelie on them n i thought hey $1.59 is a good deal n after i paid i looked at my reciept n had $16 in ecb’s…i didnt even know there was ecb’s on them n it was not even advertised in the paper :)

I just came back from cvs and this worked for me! Just make sure you get the right types. I scanned the items before i bought them at the magic coupon machine and they rung up as cheaper than displayed which i felt was a good tip off that it would work- and it did!

Went this AM to one store. Didn’t realize there was only specific ones. I tried once and I got the $4. So I went back up with a bunch more and non rang up ECB. She did the return and the mgr told me it “isn’t supposed to be on the shaving gel – there is no tags.”

Came home and read the post again. I realized that the one I got the first time around happened to be the dry skin one. So I went to my other CVS and I picked up another one. They only had one of each. I will have to see if they have the Mens sensitive. The first store I used the $4 I got back to buy a mens and no ECB. Hvae to loo kand see which one I actually picked up. Must not have been the sensitive.

None of mine had a sale sticker on them but the womens ones rang up cheaper than shelf price.

Thanks Cindy for everything. I am new at this and I don’t think I could have done it without your site.

Reply

Amanda February 21, 2012 at 1:47 pm

I went in the morning and it was working, I bought 4 bottles. I told my friend about the deal and when she went it was not working for her. (she did go to a different cvs then where I went).

Reply

Katrina February 21, 2012 at 1:52 pm

Has anyone else tried this today? I wanted to go pick up a few not if the deal isn’t working.

Reply

Leah February 21, 2012 at 3:27 pm

I just went about an hour ago in CT and thought I hit the jackpot – I was so excited to find 4 cans of the Shick sensitive and Skintimate Dry skin with the $2 peelies. I missed out on this deal last time. So I went and paid, used $6 in extrabucks to help pay for them, and received NO EXTRABUCKS back! They called the manager and he said since the sign stated it was only on the razors and blades, I should call CVS headquarters and ask them. I hate that if I return them, I wasted my $6 in extrabucks, but I also don’t want to pay $2.00 for each can I bought.

Reply

Anonymous February 21, 2012 at 3:32 pm

I think you’ll be able to get your extra bucks back. I would call the store and ask about it, because it will clearly show that you used some extra bucks on the receipt. all else fails, take them back without the receipt and get the cvs gift card back.

Reply

Amanda February 21, 2012 at 10:11 pm

You can just return it. When I needed to return in the past and used my extra bucks they just put it on a cvs gift card for me.

Reply

Martina February 21, 2012 at 5:53 pm

I tried the shick hydro sensitive deal today and the machine is not giving the Extra Bucks, the cashier told me I need to buy the shick hydro sensitive and the Skintimate Dry skin together. That was at CVS, Tampa location.

I was just wondering how you find the shoping experience at CVS compared to Shoprite? Where do you suggest a novice begin? Do the cashiers give you a hard time about all the coupons?

Reply

Cindy February 23, 2012 at 3:14 pm

I began my couponing experience at CVS. It was easy and the sales are limited. So it was not as overwhelming. Once I mastered CVS and had developed as small stockpile from shopping there, I headed over to ShopRite. By then I understood how it all worked and was not as overwhelmed with all the deals and products in a bigger store.
