  • does anyone know if staples rewards roll? for instance, if i use earned rewards to pay for some of the “free after rebate” items, will i still earn the new rewards on the newly purchased items?

    • It will deduct the amount of earned rewards you used and will give you new rewards on the balance after that deduction.

    • Sometimes the cashiers won’t let you use rewards to pay for items that you will get a rebate on. I was able to do it once, but never again. And the staples rewards don’t “roll” in the same sense that CVS ECBs do. If you do not use all of your reward in one transaction, they will print out a reward coupon with the remaining value. The expiration will either be the same expiration you had originally, or they might extend it for one month (this seems to happen if you use your reward towards the end of the month in which it originally expires). You then have to use the remaining value completely on the next transaction or forfeit.

    • Easy rebates are not the same thing as Staples rewards – the rewards are like a coupon you can only use at Staples, but the rebates give you actual money back. There is no question of rolling if you use your rewards to pay for a rebate item because you are not getting rewards back, you are getting $.

    • Staples Rewards only ‘roll’ in some circumstances. If the item is 10% back in Staples Rewards, you will NOT get any rewards back if you pay for it with your rewards. If it says $x.xx back in rewards, it will give you rewards though. Also, you do get the easy rebate still if you pay for the items using rewards.

If you don’t use all of your rewards in one shot, you will get a coupon that prints out with the rest of your balance. this only happens once, so you have 2 transactions to use your rewards in.

      • So you are saying that if I have $10 in rewards and lets say for example Staples has buy $10 battery pack get $10 reward they will roll and I will get another $10 reward at the ensd of the cycle? Have you done this?
        Thanks.

        • That is not my understanding nor my experience. You really can’t think of Staples rewards as “rolling”. If you use rewards to pay for an item that in turn will give you rewards, your reward value will be reduced by the rewards you used. So, using your example, you have a $10 reward which you use to purchase a $10 battery pack which is being advertised as 100% back in rewards. Your end result would be zero. However, if you used a $3 reward for that battery pack, then you would get a $7 reward for that battery pack.

If you use rewards on items which you will get a rebate on, you will get the full rebate. However, 90% of the time I try to do this, the cashier will not use my rewards for items which will in turn be reimbursed fully by a rebate. I have been told they are not supposed to allow customers to do this, which makes sense as it isn’t really the point of their rewards program. That being said, I always ask. And sometimes the cashier is like, “No problem.” : ) HTH.

          • I hope my post didn’t sound snarky. I was just trying to explain what I have experienced. If anyone else has experienced differently, I would love to know! You can always do a “test run” and try using rewards to pay for a 100% back item. In your rewards account online, it will list all your purchases and whatever rewards you got for that item (if any). That would be one way to see if you can “roll” rewards.

            • Hey, Sebsa, just my two cents: Your post didn’t sound snarky to me, it sounded instructive!

Only 2 things I would add, for those folks who haven’t gotten fully involved in the Staples programs (and, you can check them out on the staples.com site), yet, are:

              1) We have all been spoiled by rolling cats, ECBs, etc., from other stores, but, that isn’t what these programs are really about. You may decide it isn’t worth it, if you can’t fully roll, but, to me, whatever I get in rewards, easy rebates, and, ink recycle rebates is more than I had before! And, yes, even though I may earn less rewards that month, I loooove using them to cover the cost of my next set of ink cartridges. For my easy rebates, I have them sent to my PayPal account, which is what I use to pay for any coupons I might order!

              2) If you don’t want to reduce the amount of the new rewards you are earning, you might want to think about using the ones you are redeeming in a separate transaction for items you wouldn’t normally earn rewards for, like maybe that new phone you need, or, a piece of furniture or electronic equipment (or, of course, lower cost items!).

At any rate, these are just some random thoughts. Check the programs out, online, see what you think, and give it a shot if you decide you’d like to give them a chance!

              • Thanks Rocky! I am glad my post didn’t sound snarky! : )

Another thing about Staples rewards is that you only get the rewards (excluding ones that are for recycling your ink cartridges) if you accumulate at least $10 in rewards in a quarter (Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, etc). So if you only accumulate $6.50 in rewards come March 31, you will forfeit your rewards. : ( You can track your rewards in your online account. And this is a reason to take advantage of 100% back items to push you into that $10 category (though I think they have to give you whatever rewards you earn for advertised 100% back deals…even if your total for the quarter is under $10…I THINK I read that somewhere…unless it was wishful thinking on my part!). You really have to pay attention to the fine print with Staples. It isn’t like CVS at all. But I agree with Rocky…all these rewards are a bonus and more than I had to start with! It’s pretty easy to buy my loyalty! : )

  • They have a great deal on a new HP computer for $279 and an HP 20″ Widescreen monitor for $79. I picked these up for my Dad. GREAT machine! Fantastic Deal!

  • Where can I find the coupons for the business cards?

  • I was able to use the $0.50 off coupon for the Kleenex bundle. This was found in the 2/15 SS

  • I went to staples and was doing all the rewards deals, one for me 1 for my office and one for a pregnant friend that cant get out. I cleared out the tissues. (they had no more pens). There was plenty of everything else. A Lady came in the store to do all the deals… there was no tissues or pens so she called over the mag and was complaining, she was my cart and said your so greedy! how can you do that?? so the mag came over to me and obnoxiously said are those for different addresses???? so i explained friend office me… and the mag snotted me out… went back to the lady and said ya its not right!
i felt so stupid but it doesnt say anything about 1 per person, only per address… I just felt like the mag shouldn’t have treated me that way it wasn’t right.

    • Thats really not nice of the manager! I’m shocked!

      • honestly, you did shelf clear. and i went to the store also and there was nothing left, its very frustrating. you just circumvented their rule by doing it for different addresses but its still not in the spirit of the law.

  • if i buy a hypothetical item at $8 that is free after Easy Rebate, and I use a $5 Staples Reward to pay for it, will I receive an easy rebate for $8, or for $3 ($8 – $5 Staples Reward)?

    • It has been my experience that you get the full rebate even if you use rewards. However, I’ve only been able to do that a couple of times so please don’t hold me to that! ; )

  • I have a ?? i jusst got my first rewards $12 it says valid till april. if i wait untill another one of those %20

  • The Brother printer that is on sale for $49.99 is great! I just got it. Plus they have a warranty for THREE years for only $7.99. Totally worth it. My Dad paid $99 for the same printer a few months ago!
