Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive – May 12, 2012

Its never too early to prepare for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive that is run by the National Association of Letter Carriers.  Now in its 20th year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive.

How to help:

  1. Collect and bag non perishable food items
  2. Place by your mailbox on Saturday 5/12/12

So, start putting aside your extra goodies from your awesome shopping trips.  I’ve already started my donation bags.  And, don’t forget, you can also find a food bank or shelter to donate to through the Coupon for a Cause page.

  • i love when it comes around! the mail carrier i think gets worried when they see my bagS or box

  • Shoprite’s 10/$10 Hunts pasta sauce deal would be a great one for people to stock up on and donate!

  • I’v been a mail carrier for 22 ys, it’s amazing how much food we collect in 1 day..

    • Cool. I was wondering how many people take the time to do this. I have done it for a bunch of years but dont see too many bags on the stoops of my neighbors homes. Hope you get assistance!

  • I put my food out 2 years in a row and the mail carrier never took it :(

    • When you do it, you should write on the bag that it is for the mailman – this way, they know. But, it sounds like you and my parents have the same mailman. Their mailman will not get out of the truck for anything! They got a large flat, sturdy envelope that very clearly said “do not bend”. Well, he bent it. With the thickness of the envelope, it couldn’t be easy to do. There was no way for it to be accidentally bent. But this guy folded it into quarters and stuck it in their mailbox. Oh, and if someone parks in front of your mailbox (like you can control that), he won’t deliver the mail that day. So rain, sleet or snow won’t stop the post – but a car in front of a mailbox will? And they wonder why people try to avoid the post office.

  • I have never done this and I hope that when I do my mail carrier takes the bag….I also hope its not raining that day….What kind of bag do you put it in????

  • My mail carrier still has a walk rout for our streets so I give him a heads up a few days before hand…;-)
