Stop & Shop Gas Rewards in New Jersey!

Stop & Shop Shoppers will now be able to take advantage of the Gas Rewards Program that Stop & Shop has been offering in other states. Now I know some of us are not all to pleased with the possibility of losing out on the Instant Savings deals so many of us have come to love. However, we need to be prepared for an alternative way of saving. We still have the ability to use our coupons and we’ll make some great deals, we’ll just have to see the added savings at the gas pump if we do lose some of our Instant Savings. And, even though some gas stations tend to be priced slightly higher then others, it’s usually not more then a few cents, and we should still be able to have the upper hand in our overall savings.

Here’s some of the details of the new program:

  • We will earn 1 point for every $1.00 we spend with our Stop & Shop cards in store.
  • Points are Valid for 30 days from the day they are earned, your date of purchase is day 1.
  • Each time we hit 100 points we’ll be eligible to receive $0.10 off each gallon of gas when we fill up.
  • We can use up to 2,200 points per fill up, up to 35 gallons.
  • That’s up to $2.20 off a gallon up to 35 gallons! Great Savings for those big SUV’s!

How to Redeem in NJ:

You can check your accumulated points at the bottom of your receipt, or you can go online at Stop & Shop.com and view them in your account page, or you can access your account via the Stop & Shop mobile app, on your cell phones.

  • I have to say I get jealous of the instant saving sometimes, but the gas point can be just as great. I was able to accumulate 1800 gas points ($1.80 off per gallon). Instead of paying $4.05 I paid $2.25 and it only took $40 to fill up my tank.

  • I’ve been dying for the gas point to hit nj! I’m so glad I get to do this now!

  • Sadly I have nothing good to say about gas points being in NY. I havent been to S&S in forever! Its just not worth it for me. Shoprite is not much further and always gives me more bang for my buck and far less hassle about coupons.

  • So, you have to spend $100 in a month at S+S to get anything – not likely to be much use to me…

    • They have different deals. Buy x get 200 gas points etc. I never thought too much about it but it was easier than I thought.

  • Looks like they are only offering Shell points in my area, quite possibly the highest price gas station in the world…this stinks!

  • Its not all bad. There is a stop & shop gas station near my work and I’ve paid around $2.00/ gallon before. The Stop & Shop gas station is actually cheaper than most of the other stations in the area and with my commute it is well worth it.

  • Just a note, be sure to watch the expiration date on your gas points. They really do get taken off your account in 30 days. So if you have accumulated a minimum of 100 points, but 10 points expire before you get to the gas pump, then you’ll be short. I monitor my gas points in my SnS online account so I can keep track of when points will expire. Each transaction will have its own 30 day expiration. So you might have 10 points expire on Tuesday, 25 points expire a week later, etc. You have to make sure you use your 100 points (minimum) before a part of that total expires! Sigh. Welcome to the world of gas points NJ! : )

  • Just thinking about the shell stations in my area and they are ones where you pay the attendant after you pump and he goes into his little hut and swipes your card… These aren’t the modern pumps where they swipe your card in the pump. I wonder how this would work at the older stations? Anyone else ever run into this?

  • I am not excited for this.. there are no Shells in my area and even the ones out of reach are more expensive than the others.

  • I live in NY and not a fan of the gas points. I was at Stop and Shop for 3 weeks using my coupons and trying to score the extra gas points but unfortunately this is only a great deal for those with 30+gallon tank cars or SUV’s. My car only takes 10 gallons so I was able to get a couple of dollars off my gas fill-up but lost all the remaining points at the pump. I’ve heard people bring gas cans with them and filling up the remaining 20 gallons into those but I didn’t want to do this. I only saved about $10 at the pump because of my 10 gallon tank car. It seems to me the instant savings is a much better deal for those with small gas tank cars. I haven’t shopped at Stop&Shop since I filled up. I wish Stop&Shop will allow the 35 gallons to be used in multiple visits rather than one time. Not everyone drives a gas guzzling car.

  • I live in MD and love the gas points! I get most of my gas points from the weekly deals like the quaker medleys made me money when u factor in gas discount vs breaking even with instant savings. We have a truck we barely use and fill up once a month using our points and save well over $50 each time. Plus they send out spend $50 on groceries get 300 points. They add up quick!

  • One up side is that the shell in my town in CT where we havew never had instant savings counts ur gas cost towards points so if u swipe ur card at the pump it will add to ur points. This maybe regional but a great asset. I personally have had great weeks at s&’ w gas points and others not so much its just like any other store u explote all the good out of a store and use others that offer different benefits.

  • I have to say that this past Friday morning, my Shell had regular cash/credit price of $3.719 per gallon. By the evening rush hour (after they decided to participate in this promotion, they raised their regular cash/credit price to $3.899. Obviously the mid grade and the premium went up as well (but since I don’t get that, I didn’t bother to look. And I am friend with the Manager who told me that it’s because of the gas points that they did raise the price so high. So, while you think you are getting a deal, you’re really not. I can go to the Exxon just down the road and pay $3.739. So, even with the 10 cent discount using the S&S gas points, it would still cost me more to get gas as Shell.

I’m just saying to be careful and figure out what the cost would be per gallon with the discount at Shell and compare it to other gas stations. It might not be such a deal.
