Whats happening in NJ this weekend ? Here are some great free or inexpensive activities to do with your family over the weekend! It’s always nice to have a plan!

Saturday 10/26/13:

325th Anniversary Chesterfield Township

Cost:  FREE
Description: Opening celebrations begins at 10 a.m. with a ceremony at the Ward Avenue museum, where a recently-acquired majestic, 38-star American flag purchased by local residents in 1884 will be unveiled. Enjoy the Old Barracks Fife and Drum Corps as they lead a parade down Main Street, once a Lenni Lenape trail, to the historic Crosswicks Friends Meeting House. Enjoy lectures from NJ Historians on the Lenni Lenape, Quakers and the Underground Railroad. Children have fun with Colonial games and an art contest. Investigate antique farm equipment, including a steam traction engine and a cranberry sorter. Traditional crafts to be demonstrated during the day include spinning, quilting, pen-writing, basket-making, blacksmithing, pottery-making, and needlework. Some of the artworks will be for sale, including a commemorative piece of pottery. The Food. The aromas of open-hearth cooking are sure to stimulate the senses, along with some traditional food served by the local Chesterfield Inn. Special Menu include: the Famous Crosswicks Community Association Chicken Salad; Brick’s Mincemeat, from a recipe that was developed in 1874 by Edgar Brick and manufactured in Crosswicks until the 1970s;  Taylor Pork Roll sandwiches, a product developed by a descendant of an original Chesterfield Township settler.

Casino Pier Arcade Fall Festival

Cost: FREE
Description: Come celebrate the Fall season and Halloween at the Casino Pier Arcade! We will have lots for you and your family to do and it is FREE! The day starts at 12pm and is filled with… Pumpkin painting, Fun games and prizes (Mummy Wrap, Witch Pitch, Donut Eating Contest, Bean Bag Toss, Pin the BOO on the Ghost, and a Scavenger Hunt) Arts & Crafts (Leaf Crowns, Coloring Sheets, Pumpkin painting) Pictures with our Mascot Slider, Halloween Costume Contest. Wear your best Halloween Costume and you can win the contest! The Pier Grill will be serving some Fall favorites such as Pumpkin Pie, Apple Cider, Cotton Candy & Dirt! A fun day for kids and the arcade is open to play games all day as well!

Sunday 10/27/13:

Sugarloaf Crafts Festival

Cost:  Admission for adults but be sure to visit their website below to get a discount. Children under age 12 are free.
Description: Visitors can shop a stunning array of sculpture, glass, jewelry, fashion, wood, metal, furniture, home accessories, photography, and fine art – all hand-crafted by American artists who have been jury selected for this prestigious show. The show also includes live music and children’s entertainment. Don’t miss Ngu Mbandi’s beautiful piano melodies. Middle Earth Studios returns with their popular dressup theatre. Watch your children act in this fanciful show!

Goblins in the Garden Family Festival

Cost: $4 for children, $6 for 12 yrs. and older; Single ride ticket $1.50/
Description: Come in costume and have howling good time. Take a Haunted Train Ride; dodge costumed characters in our Haunted Maze, meet the bumbling burglars and have your fortune told. Trick or Treat during the Costume Parade. Celebrate the Mexican tradition of “Día de los Muertos,” a fun and educational activity for the whole family. Stop by the Creepy concession stand to purchase some fall goodies.
