i hate it when coupon sites do this. in the deal above, the soap is NOT free. you have to pay $1 just to get the coupon. even if you turn around and use the coupon for a free second bar, it’s still like paying 50 cents each since you paid $1 oop at the beginning. so misleading!!

    • misterbill

Buy 2 across 2 orders. Save the one from the first order for your next visit and return it. Or see if the coupon prints as soon as the item scans and if you have a friendly cashier, ask them to give it to you to use on that transaction.

sorry but i think buying and then returning an item just to get the Catalina is dishonest. that’s not how the Catalina system was meant to be used. with so many new couponers on this site, it’s too bad a veteran couponer like yourself is so openly advocating such blatant dishonesty.

        • misterbill

This is not a standard Catalina where you’re getting money back on any future order (and they’re not even advertising that you’ll get it) so I don’t see it as being dishonest. Plus you have to buy the item to use the coupon. Personally, I’d just try and use the coupon as soon as it printed on the first order.

          • savannah

Who cares if the Catalina says “Off your next purchase” or “Off your next purchase of Caress.” And what difference does it make whether or not the Catalina was advertised. It doesn’t change the fact that it’s unethical to go in and buy a product to get a coupon, then return the item (but of course, as you advocate, KEEP the coupon) and then turn around and use the coupon to obtain additional items for free. How is that any different than buying items in — for example — a SR Dollar Days deal to get a OYNO, then returning all the qualifying items, KEEPING THE CAT, and then using it to re-buy the same items, but for free. Try to excuse it however you like, it’s not the way the Catalina system was intended to be used and you shouldn’t be promoting ways to get around the system.

            • misterbill

It’s completely different, but clearly you can’t see that so I’m not going to bother trying anymore.

              • savannah

I see and understand exactly what you’re saying…. I’m just telling you that it’s unethical.

                • misterbill

Ok try this one. You buy something and a bunch of random Catalinas print out. You return the item. Do you return the Catalinas (and have the cashiers give you a puzzled look when you try to) or shred them, especially if one of them is useful for you?

        • Lesley

Where does it say anywhere about returning an item? Cindy did not return the bars of soap.

          • savannah

No, not Cindy!! User “misterbill” suggested advocated buying one bar of soap to get the Catalina, then returning the soap but keeping the Cat and using it to get additional soaps for free.

            • Lesley

My apologizes. I missed that part of his comment. Yeah, definitely not something anyone should be advocating on this site. I won’t be doing this deal bc I do not use bat soap and I normally do not shop at Walgreens.

You should be banned from this site.

Savannah, I did the deal several times and it went like this:

      Buy 1 Caress $1.00
      Paid: $1.00
      Received a $1.50 catalina

      Buy 1 Caress $1.00
Buy 1 Clearance wrapping paper holder $2.99 (orig $11.99)
-$1.50 catalina coupon (scanned at full value)
      Paid: $2.49

      Buy 1 Caress $1.00
Buy 1 Lysol Foaming Hand Soap $0.89 (on clearance)
-$1.50 catalina coupon (scanned at full value)
      paid: $0.39

So, after just 2 transactions, I made back my $1.00….making them all FREE

However, even if you didn’t do that, you can buy as many free as you want after that with just a $1.00 “investment” that is close enough to FREE for me. You didn’t have to buy a paper to get the coupon or use printer paper or ink to print it. :)

Per the Walgreens coupon policy, coupons for amounts greater than the price of the item on which you are attempting to redeem it are to be adjusted down to meet the price of the item. According to their own policy, Walgreens should not give overage; therefore, you shouldn’t technically be able to recoup your initial investment.

Care to weigh in on your stance regarding buying an item just to get the Catalina, only to return the item and keep the Cat? ;) (Just kidding, you don’t have to go there lol)

So tell me, which comments should I delete? His or yours for telling us that we are misleading people.

All this back and forth for what? $1. Very upsetting to me.

        • misterbill

Clearly whoever programmed the WG registers didn’t read the coupon policy.

Can anyone tell me if this deal is still working this week- first week of March??
