What’s happening in NJ this weekend? Here are some great free or inexpensive activities to do with your family over the weekend! It’s always nice to have a plan!

Saturday 8/30/14:

The Wonderful World’s Fair Family Day

Cost:  FREE museum admission; $3 planetarium shows
Description:  Celebrate the wonder of World’s Fairs! Join the New Jersey State Museum for a family fun day. Explore our exciting new exhibit New Jersey on Display: World’s Fairs and the Garden State then grab an ice cream on the front lawn and stay for FREE hands-on crafts, workshops and activities that will explore the importance of World’s Fair inventions. Planetarium shows will run throughout the day at a reduced cost of $3.00/person.
Location: New Jersey State Museum, 205 W. State Street, Trenton, NJ

Summer Shorebird Walk

Cost:  FREE
Description: Come on out to Liberty State Park and join us for a leisurely stroll as we look for and identify our summer shorebirds. Dress to be outside and bring binoculars if you have them, as we have a limited number that can be borrowed.

Sunday 8/31/14:

43rd Annual Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival

Cost:  Varies
Description:  Come out to this annual festival for food, children’s entertainment, and, of course, tons of live bluegrass music.
Location: Salem County Fairgrounds, Woodstown, NJ

Woodland Park’s Labor Day Sunday Street Fair

Cost:  FREE
Description:  The street will be transformed into a giant town block party. A special kids section will be brimming with all kinds of fun stuff to do, including kiddie rides, face painting, sand art, temporary tattoos, pony rides and petting zoo. Local merchants and businesses will showcase their shops and offer their special sales, and open air cafes along the street fair route will offer a wide selection of delicious foods such as hot dogs, ice cream, chicken fingers, zeppoles, shish ka bobs, fresh squeezed lemonade, Italian Ices, french fries, hamburgers, sausage and pepper sandwiches, cheesesteaks, roasted corn and much more.

Monday, Labor Day 9/1/14:

57th Annual Labor Day Parade

Cost:  FREE
Description:  Don’t miss one of Jersey’s oldest and biggest parades! Starting at the Police Athletic League Recreation Center on Maple Avenue, this parade features bagpipers, clowns, local boy and girl scout troops, home-made floats, costumed characters, athletic organizations, volunteer groups, military vehicles, classic cars, political leaders, firetrucks and marching bands. The procession winds through town and ends up at South Plainfield Middle School, where a community celebration features local food vendors, crafts and live music. The entertainment will be provided by the band 9 South. The concert begins at 6:00 p.m. and the day ends with a fireworks display at dusk.

Labor Day Weekend In The Wildwoods

Cost:  FREE
Description:  On Friday, the special Labor Day Weekend fireworks show will begin at 10:00 p.m. on the beach at Pine Avenue.
On Saturday night there’s a concert under the stars at the Lou Booth Amphitheater that is located at Ocean Avenue at 2nd in North Wildwood. The concert features Beatlemania and it begins at 8:00 p.m. The concert goes on rain or shine.
On Sunday, there’s a Wildwood Block Party and Music Festival that runs all day long, from noon to midnight. The festival features crafts, games, rides, local food vendors and free entertainment all day and night long. The party will be staged at Fox Park, located on Ocean Avenue between Burk and Montgomery Avenues.
On Labor Day, Monday, September the 1st, there will be a parade featuring the Cape Atlantic Irish Pipe Brigade. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. on the Wildwood Boardwalk from 16th Avenue to the Wildwoods Convention Center. This will be the last parade of the season for the brigade in Wildwood.
