Today, A&P released a statement that they have executed agreements to sell approximately 120 stores out of their 296 stores as they filed for bankruptcy protection. They have  not released the buyers at this point but there have been rumors that it could be Acme Markets (who is owned by Safeway, Albertsons) or Stop & Shop (owned by Ahold).

In addition to the sale of the 120 stores, A&P  will also be completely closing 25 stores.  These stores will continue to carry full stock however, in the coming weeks, they will be running significant mark-downs on many products.

The following 25 will be closing:

How does the bankruptcy filing affect customers?

  • The vast majority of our stores are operating normally and will be fully stocked. While some stores will close in the near-term, the vast majority will continue providing customers with the same high-quality products and exceptional customer service. Serving our customers will continue to be our #1 priority.

Will the Company continue to honor customer loyalty programs?

  • Yes. We will honor all existing customer promotional and loyalty programs.

Can I still use my coupons and loyalty points at other locations?

  • Yes. We will honor all existing customer promotional and loyalty programs at stores that will remain open during the sale process.

What if people want to return items that they previously purchased?

  • We will continue to accept returned merchandise from customers, as usual.
