Sweet Leaf Tea Recall

The Sweet Leaf Tea Company, which is owned by Nestle Waters, announced yesterday that it is voluntarily recalling 1.5 million bottles of its iced tea product due to the possible presence of glass fragments inside the beverage. The recall, which includes only 16 oz. glass bottles with select production codes, is being instituted out of an “abundance of caution” following four independent complaints of glass in the product. The company believes that the glass got into the bottles as a “result of a glass breakage during the filling process.”

No injuries have been reported at this time.

The products affected by this recall are limited to 16 oz. glass bottles of Sweet Leaf tea distributed between 27 February and 6 December 2015. The flavors included in the recall are:

  • Original

  • Half and Half Lemonade

  • Green Tea with Citrus

  • Mint and Honey

  • Peach

  • Raspberry

The product codes and manufacture dates for these bottles can be found in the official Sweet Leaf Tea press release, here.

Consumers who have the affected products are cautioned not to drink it as ingesting the glass fragments may cause mouth lacerations or more serious internal injury. Rather, they can contact the Sweet Leaf Tea Company at 1-877-832-5323 between 8am and 8pm EST, Monday-Friday, to request a replacement product.
