Massive Applegate Recall: 4,500 Pounds of Chicken Nuggets May Have Plastic Pieces Inside

Over the weekend, Applegate Natural and Organic Meats announced a massive recall of its Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets. This recall is an FDA Class II with a “remote possibility of adverse health consequences.” The FDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) was alerted to a problem by several consumers who complained about small, solid, clear plastic pieces inside the Applegate nuggets.

Applegate Recall Details

The products being recalled are 8-ounce packages of frozen Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets. The recalled lot, which includes over 4,500 pounds of chicken nuggets, has a “Best Before” date of September 27,2016. . Here is a quick look at the affected products:

Purdue Foods LLC, who owns Applegate, reports that the affected boxes of chicken nuggets were shipped to various retailers in Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, New York, and Texas.

The FDA issued the original recall on March 6th and warns anyone who has these chicken nuggets not to eat them. Rather, they should throw them away or return them to the store where they were originally purchased.
