Last week, two separate companies announced unrelated nationwide recalls due to the same problem: glass. Snyder’s-Lance, Inc. and Roland Foods are urging customers not to consume select products because they may contain glass inside the packaging. The recalled items include Emerald Nuts Roasted & Salted Cashew 100-Calorie Packs and Roland Fire Roasted Red Pepper Strips.

Emerald Nuts Cashew Recall

Snyder’s-Lance, Inc., the parent company of Emerald Nuts, announced late last week that it was recalling a select number of its Roasted & Salted Cashew 100 Calorie Packs because of the possible presence of glass pieces in the individual packages. Believing this to be an issue with one lot of products received from one supplier, this recall is limited to a small number of products, listed below:

Product: Emerald 100 Calorie Packs Roasted & Salted Cashew Halves & Pieces

UPC Code (outer carton, located next to “Nutrition Facts” panel): 0 10300 and 33324 1

UPC Code (individual packages, , located next to “Nutrition Facts” panel): 0 10300 and 33399 9

No other sizes of cashews, Emerald Nuts, or Snyder’s-Lance products are impacted by this recall.

Snyder’s-Lance announced this recall following a consumer report and issued it voluntarily out of an abundance of caution. At this time, no injuries due to the glass fragments have been reported.

Consumers who have purchased the Emerald Nut 100-Calorie Packs listed above should not consume them. Instead, the company is asking those customers to contact their consumer affairs department directly, either online at http://www.emeraldnuts.com/contact-emerald/ or by telephone at 503-364-0399,  Monday – Friday between 8am and 5pm, PST.

Roland Fire Roasted Red Pepper Recall

In an eerily similar, yet unrelated announcement on the same day last week, Roland Foods, LLC also issued a recall for one of its products: Roland’s Fire Roasted Red Pepper Strips. Their 5 lb, 8oz. cans may also have shavings of glass in their packaging. This recall affects the following products:

Product: Roland Fire Roasted Red Pepper Strips, 5lb, 8 oz. can

Item Number: 45628

Lot Numbers: 427, 428, 432, 437

UPC Code (outer shipping carton): 10041224456287

No other Roland products or Roasted Red Pepper Strip sizes are impacted by this recall.

Roland’s peppers were distributed across the U.S. and in Canada to both retail and restaurant customers. They issued this voluntary recall following consumer complaint about glass inside the product. An investigation into the manufacturer and facility is currently underway, and no reports of illness or injury as a result of this recall have been reported at this time.

Any consumer who has one of the above-identified products should not consume it. Instead, please contact Roland’s Customer hotline by visiting their website at www.rolandfood.com, or calling 1-800.221.4030 ext. 222, Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm EST.
