National Frozen Foods Corporation announced yesterday that it is recalling several lots of frozen vegetables, including frozen peas and mixed vegetable medleys, over concerns of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. In an updated press release posted to their website on June 20, 2016, the national distributors released a list of 45 different lots of vegetables sold under 6 different brands including Great Value, Live Smart, and Market Pantry.

The recall originated when routine testing by the company indicated that there was a risk of contamination by Listeria, a type of bacteria. While no illnesses have been reported at this time, the company is proceeding with the recall out of an abundance of caution.

Exposure to Listeria can cause serious and sometimes fatal side effects in vulnerable populations including young children, the old, or the immune compromised. In addition, Listeria is linked to miscarriage and stillbirth among pregnant women. For the general population, Listeria poisoning is not often severe, but may include temporary short-term symptoms such as fever, headaches, body aches, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.

The affected items were distributed nationwide to a variety of retailers between the dates of September 2, 2015 and June 2, 2016. All the items and lot numbers included in this recall, as of this publication date, are contained in the table below:
