Well, it’s happening again. This weekend, to kick off their newest Christmas sales push, one Big Box retailer is stocking dozens of Hatchimals. Target stores announced the following this past Tuesday

…stores across the country will begin to receive dozens of Hatchimals ($59.99), with inventory popping up throughout the week.

I confirmed this with a quick search over at BrickSeek.com, which tracks the inventory at Target stores. I researched the site extensively for my piece about finding a Hatchimal before Christmas, and tracked many local stores’ inventories. Since late last week, there is a definite uptick in the percentage of stores with the items in stock. Similarly, I have seen inventory pop up at several zip codes from across the country that I’ve been monitoring regularly.

How to Get Your Child a Hatchimal at Target this Weekend

Unfortunately, many anecdotal reports from our Facebook page and others confirm that any stock you see currently is not available for sale. Apparently, many stores are holding their current Hatchimals inventory until Sunday.

As a result, much like last week’s Toys R Us frenzy, parents who want to pick up one of the “dozens” of Hatchimals available at local Target stores will need to get there early. Last week, both my mother and mother-in-law were turned away from TRU an hour and half before stores opened.

To be safe, experts recommend showing up at your local Target by 4am or earlier. In fact, many parents and others may be camping out.

No, I’m serious…

For those of you who enjoy a warm Sunday in your own bed, there are alternative ways to get your child a Hatchimal for Christmas. The first, though admittedly most repulsive, way is through second-hand sellers on sites like eBay. These people are a good portion of those who are waiting on those early morning lines – one guy offered my mother his spot in the front for $500. They have plenty of Hatchimals and are selling them for 2-3 times retail price. If you have the funds to do it, this is one option.

Alternately, you can try our tips for finding a Hatchimal online or in local Target and Walmart stores that I posted earlier this week. As I state in the article, one of the other women at the LRWC office successfully got a Hatchimal in the store and I got one online using these methods.

Finally, both Target and Spin Master, the manufacturer of Hatchimals, have come up with some new and cute ways to give your child an IOU. On Sunday, Target stores nationwide will begin carrying Hatchimals-themed gift cards. Though they won’t reserve you a toy, they pair up nicely with the Spin Master solution, found here. The company designed a cute Hatchimals-themed letter from Santa, explaining to your child that even the Man in Red couldn’t get his hands on enough of these toys. Though not as good as the real thing, the benefit of the Target card and letter is that if your son or daughter decides that the toys weren’t as great as their hype, they can still get a great gift in January.
