The shopping trip I made last night to A&P is a great example of using all of your resources to save money on your groceries. For those of you that took advantage of the A&P and Pathmark Gift Card Offer they had a couple of weeks ago, you are probably having shopping trips similar to this. For those of you that missed the Gift Card Deal, you were able to buy up to $500 in gas or gift cards and get up to $60 in catalinas.
I jumped on the opportunity, over a 2 week period that they offered it, to take all my budgeted money for gas, Christmas presents and even bills that were coming due to pay (like my son’s college tuition) and do the gift card deal several times. Because of it, I ended up with a nice stack of $20 catalinas which were completely free (unless I bought visa cards which had an activation fee).
So, for the last couple of weeks, I have been getting practically free groceries at A&P including the trip I made last night. My total out of pocket was a mere $0.77. Total saved: $214! Boo-yah!
I did get lucky on the Polly-O Cheese. It was on sale for $1.99. There were 50% clearance tags on a bunch of them that had a price of $5.49 so they deducted $2.74! Yippey…profit of $0.75 each! Didn’t notice that until I got home!
Also, just a note, I did ask before I used all 4 $20 catalina in one transaction. I had my shopping helpers (Pat & Patrick) with me in case I had to do separate transactions. Since they said yes to using all 4, it made it a lot easier.
Paid: $0.77
Will Receive: $1 SavingStar Deposit for Pillsbury Cookies, $0.75 SavingStar Deposit for Pillsbury Pie Crust
Total Savings including sale prices and coupons: $214 which I will be adding to the LRWC Reader’s Grocery Savings Counter. Be sure to add your savings so we can see how much we have all saved in 2012.

Here is my second shopping trip since Hurricane Sandy. This time I did stock up on some meat. Remember, if you lost everything in your freezers, go slowly. Don’t try to buy everything all at once.
Earlier in the week I picked up some refrigerated items and yesterday I grabbed some meats for the freezer. And, of course, while I was out, I can’t resist taking advantage of some freebie deals.
My refrigerator and freezer are now starting to look like someone lives here! So much better then seeing an empty frig!

Well, it’s time to start restocking after Hurricane Sandy. As I mentioned in my last shopping post, like most of you, we lost everything in all of our refrigerators and freezers. So the only thing we can do is to slowly build back up. If I didn’t use coupons I would totally be freaking out right now. But, because of coupons, I paid, out of pocket, only $33.28 but it really cost me only $19.99 after catalina and other rebates. Not too shabby!
This trip to ShopRite did not include meat which I plan on doing today at Best Market. They have boneless chicken on sale for just $1.49 per lb. For this trip, I dug through all of my printable coupons to find anything that would score even somewhat of a great deal. I also used some of the free offer coupons that I get from the companies.
Received:
Total Cost: $19.99
Total Savings including sale prices and coupons: $136.59 which I will be adding to the LRWC Reader’s Grocery Savings Counter. Be sure to add your savings so we can see how much we have all saved in 2012.

If you were following along on the LRWC Facebook Page, you would know that we were without power for 11 days after Hurricane Sandy. I feel blessed that we had no damage to our home but let me tell you, it was a long 11 days without power! I do want to take a moment and thank all the lines men and women that have been working around the clock to restore power. Many people traveled from far away states to help us here and I just want you to know that we appreciate it very much!
The above image is a picture of the inside of my refrigerator on Friday evening when our power was restored. We lost all our food in our refrigerators and freezers as I know many of you have as well. Throwing out that food was heartbreaking. However, I am not worried in the least because I am a Couponer and I will rebuild my stockpile!
If you lost everything as well, remember the tip we mentioned in the Extreme Couponing Tip last week. Take your time! Don’t feel the need to restock every single item that was in your fridge before the power outage.
As most of you know, I have a weekly budget of $75 in my grocery envelope which we deposit in every 2 weeks. Well, for me, it turns out that we had just deposited money into our envelope right before the Hurricane and we just did again on Friday. So, I have $300 of unused grocery money sitting in my envelopes waiting to be used to restock. This is another great example of why I, whole heatedly, encourage people to set up a budget and stick to it. It’s times like these that, because of our budget, I do not feel the stress of where will I get the money from. It’s there already!
Now, I have a lot of shopping to start up but, as I mentioned, start small and take your time. We didn’t have time to do any shopping yesterday because we were cleaning inside the house and the yard. But, we made our first purchase this morning. And, it was an important one
My first purchase was, you guessed it….coffee creamers! Ranks #1 on my list!
As I was posting deals this morning, I sent Pat out to Acme (which happens to be very close to my house) to take advantage of this awesome deal for free International Delight Coffee Creamer.
Buy 2 International Delight Coffee Creamers 16 oz – $1.50 each
-(2)$0.55/1 ID Coupons
Pay: $0.80
Get a $1 Catalina
Free + $0.20 money maker
See that, I’m already $0.20 ahead! Couponing truly rocks!
Next stop, ShopRite and Best Market!

I first want to apologize for not posting my shopping trips over the last month. Unfortunately, I have had a month that I do not ever want to repeat. I won’t go into details as it would take up too much space on the site and too much of your time as I know most of you are getting prepared for Hurricane Sandy.
I do want to thank my wonderful crew for stepping up to the plate and covering the deals in my absence. So, a big thank you to Megan, Melinda, Gigi, Loretta and everyone else that helps to keep the deals coming and posted for you guys. And, of course, you guys for always contributing your finds!
A few weeks ago we posted a new video feature called Talking Thrifty with Cindy. Unfortunately that did not start yet with all the things that happened. Our alternate plan was to get that going early this week so I’m hoping to get that done and posted as long as Hurricane Sandy does not take away the electricity at my house.
And, speaking of Hurricane Sandy, for those of you that are in the path (including me) be safe and remember to follow the tips on How to prepare for a Hurricane.
This morning I headed to ShopRite. My goal was strictly to test out some catalina deals. Some worked, some did not and some were a little strange.
Here is my trip:
Paid: $18.70
Total Cost after coupons & catalinas: $9.20
Total Savings including sale prices and coupons: $42.35 which I will be adding to the LRWC Reader’s Grocery Savings Counter. Be sure to add your savings so we can see how much we have all saved in 2012.

It’s been a while since I included a trip of my produce and meat purchases. Sometimes I wonder if you guys think I live off of body wash and shampoo! But I don’t of course. So, I took this opportunity to include my trip to Best Market which is where I buy a good portion of my meat and almost all of my produce. Seriously, if you live in the area of Holmdel/Middletown (NJ) I would highly recommend going. Even if you have to drive a half hour or so it would be worth your while. But, they do have limits per person so I would bring a shopping buddy so you can double up on your purchases. If you live too far to get the ad then watch for our match ups. Their sales run from Friday to Thursday and we usually post Best Market on Thursday nights. So watch for it tonight.
I also made another trip to ShopRite to take advantage of more of the great deals there. This time, instead of using the Free Clear Men’s Shampoo coupon wyb Degree Men’s Product, I just used the $3 off peelie coupon. That was sort of a spur of the moment purchase when I saw the peelies and I know my husband is happy to have his own “manly” shampoos
Here is my trip:
Paid: $2.33
Received: $2.00 Catalina (Simple), $3.00 Catalina (Clear Mens Shampoo)
Best Market Transaction:
Total Savings including sale prices and coupons: $61.29 which I will be adding to the LRWC Reader’s Grocery Savings Counter. Be sure to add your savings so we can see how much we have all saved in 2012

I was heading to ShopRite to check the Clear Men’s Shampoo Deal that reader Nate had let us know about. And before I knew it, my shopping list grew as I started pulling out coupons I had printed. This was a pretty sweet shopping trip and cost me under $5 after catalinas and savingstar deposit.
I also had the privilege of meeting a reader, Joseph. He and his wife were shopping away and proudly had his coupon binder sitting on top of his cart. He was taking advantage of some deals and let me know that he is saving 80% on groceries over the past year and a half. Way to go Joseph! And, he emailed me a picture of his shopping trip this morning which is at the bottom of the post.
Here is my trip:
Paid: $19.28
Received: ***$3.00 Catalina (Clear), **$2.00 Catalina (Mio), *$5.00 Catalina (Dial), $5.00 SavingStar Deposit (Unilever)
Total Savings including sale prices and coupons: $73.65 which I will be adding to the LRWC Reader’s Grocery Savings Counter. Be sure to add your savings so we can see how much we have all saved in 2012
It was very nice to meet you in ShopRite of Middletown tonight. I have been couponing all my life, but my extreme couponing started about a year and a half ago. Thanks for all your hard work!!!! I have saved lots and lots of money because of your web site. I always refer everybody that asks how do I do it; to your amazing website! I just wanted to share my shopping trip that I did tonight!
I paid $29.54 and my Total Savings was $113.71; plus we got two $2 CATS!

My favorite shopping trips are the ones that the cashiers get excited over. Today, at ShopRite, my cashier was commenting about each coupon she scanned. Things like, “wow this is a good coupon”, “another great coupon”, “boy, you really have a lot of great coupons”. She was amazed and happy to see the final total which was just $2.71. Of course, previous catalinas helped lower that total however I did walk away with another $2 catalina and a lot of great groceries.
Oh and, if you bought the Mallomars this week, stick them in the microwave for 5 seconds for instant smores! Yum!
Here are my trips:
Paid: $2.71
Received: $2.00 Catalina (Glade)
Paid: $2.35
Total Savings including sale prices and coupons: $78.48 which I will be adding to the LRWC Reader’s Grocery Savings Counter. Be sure to add your savings so we can see how much we have all saved in 2012

The only thing in this shopping trip that I really needed was the dishwashing detergent. I was down to my last few tablets. So, although I wasn’t jumping up and down about the $10 options card deal at A&P (ended Thursday), it was a great way for me to get what I needed for cheap. And, I stayed out of Marshalls when I went. Yay me!
At Rite Aid, I needed to use up my UP Rewards that were expiring so I grabbed a few things I’ll use. And, of course I continued onto ShopRite to use up some more of my coupons. Actually I was going to get more of the Wacky Mac but I don’t know what happened to my other coupons. Also missing was my $2.50 Renu Coupon from the Savings Club. Hmm, could it be the new puppy? I wonder?!
Here are my trips:
Paid: $1.69
Received: $2.00 Catalina (Glade) & $2.00 Catalina (Kleenex)
Paid: $8.71
Will submit for the $10 Options Card that printed at the register
Paid: $0.44
Loaded to my card: $2 (Sunsweet), (2) $2 (Ban), $1 Ban, $7 (Renu)
Received $0.50 back
Loaded to my card: $2 (Sunsweet)
