What’s For Dinner

Relish – A Weekly Menu Planner

One way to save money each month is to cut down on your take out food. We have saved so much money by really planning our meals for the week. The problem I start to find is that I’m making the same thing over and over again.
This came in my inbox today and it looks pretty interesting so I thought I would share it with you guys.
It’s called Relish and here are some of their features:
  • Help you plan and create 5 healthy, inexpensive, easy to prepare (less than 30 min) recipes per week.
  • They also provide a monthly freezer menu if you like to prepare ahead.
  • Once you choose your recipes they figure out your grocery list.
  • Menu planning for Gluten free diets
  • Coming soon…an iphone app

The cost is $7.00 per month.
If you are interested in checking it out you can go here.

What’s For Dinner?

I did it again last week. No menu plan. When will I learn.
So what happened? You guessed it, we ordered out because some days were so crazy that it hurt my brain to even think of what to eat let alone make it. So here is my plan for next week.

Everything we are preparing for the week may not necessarily be something that I bought this week. I have quite a stockpile in my pantry and freezers.
Here is our flexible dinner menu:

  • Pierogies, Chicken Apple Sausage & Onions
  • Breaded Chicken, Rice Pilaf & Veggies
  • Chicken Marsala
  • Grilled Steak, Sweet Potato Fries, Salad
  • Pot Roast, Mashed Potatoes, Veggies
  • Cavatelli & Broccoli
  • Leftovers

What’s For Dinner?

Today I cooked 2 whole chickens. One we grilled and the other I cooked in the crockpot (thanks to the suggestion of Erin). The one we grilled we ate and it was so delicious. The other one I shredded and will use some for salad topping for my husband and I during the week. The rest will be for the Chicken Taco Bake I am making.

Here is what we will be making for the rest of the week. Remember my menu planning is a flexible menu. Having a list of meals I know I have available to choose from keeps me flexible but focused at the same time.

Here is our flexible dinner menu:

  • Oven Baked Fried Chicken & Salad (leftovers) we never ate these last week because my son kept eating the chicken as snacks.
  • Chicken Taco Bake – already made and ready to put in the oven
  • Homemade pizza

What’s For Dinner?

This week we have some items frozen from the football BBQ we had on Saturday.
There was so much food leftover that we all took some leftovers home.
And I’ll tell you a secret…it was catered by Frungillo catering. Yes the one from the show.
They were very generous to donate the food for our boy’s team.
Thank you Frungillo’s!

So, with those delicious leftover I will mix in my own meals. And remember my menu planning is a flexible menu. Having a list of meals I know I have available to choose from keeps me flexible but focused at the same time.
