Tuesday Shopping: Target – Scored a Great Pair of Shoes for $3.00!

Have I mentioned how much I love when new Target coupons come out.  I might have once or twice.  And I’ll mention it again.  I LOVE when new Target coupons come out.

I was shopping yesterday for college dorm stuff so after I stopped in at Bed Bath & Beyond (with my coupons of course), I headed over to Target with all my newly printed coupons in hand.  So fun!  So many great deals.  Here is what I scored:

Men’s Merona Short Sleeve Polo $8.00
Hanes 6 pack Men’s Tshirts $7.89
Women’s Merona Short Sleeve Shirt $7.00
Women’s Merona Shoes $6.24

-$3.00 Men’s Merona coupon
-$1.00 Hanes Coupon (printed previously)
-$2.00 Woman’s Merona top coupon
-$3.00 Merona Shoe coupon
Subtotal: $20.13 from Clothing Budget

Pillow $3.49
Desk Lamp $4.99 (for college)
Target Home Shower Storage Unit $19.00 (for college apartment)

-$1.00 Pillow
-$10.00 Target Home Bathroom
Subtotal: $16.48 from College Budget

2 Quaker Chewy Bars $2.00 each
Dole Salad $1.49
2 Market Pantry Bread $0.85 each
6 Bananas $0.19**
2 Archer Farm Simply Balanced Fruit Bars $2.00 each

-(2)$1.00 Quaker Breakfast item
-$1.00 produce item
-(2)$.50/1 Market Pantry Bread
-$0.19 Produce Item **
-$1/2 Archer Farm Simply Balanced Fruit Bars
Subtotal: $6.19 from Grocery Budget

Tax: $0.73
Total Paid: $43.53

**Just want to point out that the $1.00 produce coupon will not work on a few bananas.  It will just deduct for one so don’t waste your coupon on that.  Didn’t know that until after the transaction, but, when I did my transaction, the cashier rang up all the bananas I had as only $0.19 so the coupon adjusted down to the $0.19.  I didn’t notice it until I got home.

I want to just point out a few great deals.  My favorite deal I scored yesterday was a cool pair of shoes for only $3.24

So happy about this find.  Seriously, $3.24 for these shoes.  And, I tried them on with my bootleg jeans and they look great.  So happy!  So keep an eye out for them.

Here were some other deals I saw:

Women’s Merona Belts $6.99 (reg price)
$2/1 Belt coupon
$4.99 after coupon

Dora the Explorer DVD $5.00
-$3/1 Dora DVD
$2.00 after coupon

Let us know if you score any great deals. We love to see what you found!

Love $3 shoes, last week I found my daughter a pair of size 7 toddler, sparkly dress shoes for $1.16 on clearance. Got to love a great deal.

    hi cindy,

since you have kids in college, can you write an article on the essential things needed to bring to college apartment. this would be a helpful guide or info for new college students and the parents, as well, like me. thanks.

  • Mary

I would also find it helpful for an experienced college mom to pass along any advice for dorm room essentials. My oldest is leaving for school in a little under 2 weeks. I have a couple of lists–one from the college and another I found online–but the advice of a veteran would be ever so helpful.

    • My oldest is going into her second year at college. Half the stuff you send them with could just as easily stay home. However many towels, washcloths, sheets and pillow cases you were going to send with them- send about 1/3 to 1/2 that amount.

Would you mind sharing your clothing budget? I have been doing this for a few months and have my grocery/toiletry…budget set and am able to adhere to it. So now I am ready to venture on to something else. Just looking for some ideas to figure out where to even start. Thanks!

    • Cindy

Hey Lori, I don’t mind at all. Every 2 weeks we take out $50 for our clothing budget. We work with cash envelopes so that money goes right into our cash envelope. Right now that is for a family of say 3 1/2. My oldest is now completely paying for her own clothes. My middle one pays for most but I kick in some as well. And we still completely pay for my son plus my husband and myself. I have been on this budget for a 1 1/2 years and I have never gone over. I have, occasionally, use my blow money to buy myself something here or there but that is it. HTH

hey cindy! i noticed you said you have a budget for clothes! just wondering what your ratios are for budgeting, and how you figure clothes in there. Thanks!

    • Cindy

Hey Crystal, we use a budget of $50 for every 2 weeks. I’ve never really calculated it as a ratio but more of what I would be able to afford and stay within. The $50 has worked well for us.

At some point would you be willing to post your other categories and amounts for your budget? I have found a few and am trying to work with them. I just find it gets confusing when something doesn’t fit into a category. I recently started a clothing and gift budget and am trying them out. Also, do you have spending money budgets, like say you just want to stop and get a good cup of coffee! Thank you so much for all of your help and all that you do.
