What’s happening in NJ this weekend ? Here are some great free or inexpensive activities to do with your family over the weekend! It’s always nice to have a plan!
Saturday 6/7/14:
West Orange Street Fair
Cost: FREE
Description: The street fair will celebrate ‘Edison Day,’ an annual event put on by the National Park Service, and New Jersey’s 350th Anniversary. The centerpiece of this community event is the Township’s annual Downtown Street Fair. Drawing thousands of people from all over the state, the street fair features more than 75 artists, crafters and vendors. New Jersey has chosen Thomas Edison NHP to highlight the theme of “Innovation” for the NJ350 Anniversary event. There will be special Edison memorabilia that is brought out to be on display only once each year during Edison Day. The historic site has planned a full day of free activities for the event, some of which include: Hands-On Chemistry Activities Junior Ranger Tent Animated Highlights from the Black Maria, where movies were first invented. Dream Rocket Children’s Art Project Meet the Ranger Electric Vehicle Car Show. The day will also include the West Orange Town Picnic, when all of the departments that run the Township will be on-hand to answer questions about the town to residents, visitors and prospective homeowners. The picnic will feature entertainment throughout the day. Performances include bands and solo acts, cabaret and Broadway performances, comedians, a dance troupe, jazz musicians and much more. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs. Another great feature, ‘Touch a Truck,’ will be on site for kids’ entertainment. Police cars, fire trucks, ambulances and large vehicles of every description will be available for children to sit in and climb on. Drivers and operators, will be on hand to explain how these automobiles work and what purpose they serve in the community.

3rd Annual Helmetta Strawberry Festival
Cost: FREE
Description: Saint George’s Annual Strawberry Festival with locally grown strawberries, home baked strawberry shortcakes, smoothies and much more. Homebaked items will be available in our “Ye Olde Bake Shop.” Breakfast and lunch foods will be available for purchase. A variety of vendors will be on hand and tours of our historic church will be available. Great Gospel Doo Wop music provided by Santos. Activities for the kids in our “Kidz Zone” and face painting by Petals the Clown thoughout the day.

Strawberry Harvest Festival

Description: Celebrate One of Your Favorite Berries at our Annual Strawberry Festival! Bring the Family and Try our Homemade Strawberry Treats including homemade strawberry ice cream, strawberry shortcakes, strawberry shakes, strawberry lemonade slushies, strawberry sundaes, strawberry pie, strawberry rhubarb pie, and strawberry fudge. Take a Scenic hayride to our strawberry patch to pick your own strawberries! Meet Miss Strawberry and Mr. Sawdust!

StoryWalk Outdoor Exhibit
Cost: FREE
Description: Calling all nature lovers who love books! StoryWalk® is an interactive outdoor exhibit that turns reading into an adventure along the trails without electronic devices. Hikers can read a nature-themed story while they walk in the woods. Designed for beginning readers, the stories will appeal to all ages. TNC will post a new story, page by page, along a trail each season.
Location: Tenafly Nature Center, 313 Hudson Avenue, Tenafly, NJ
