Saturday 2/28/15:

Kids Create II: More Bridges And Machines

Cost:  $5 for all participants. Children 6 and under are free.
Description:  Celebrate National Engineers Week at Roebling Museum! Saturday, February 28, 2015, 10am-2pm $5 for all participants. Children 6 and under are free. Test your bridge-building skills and discover the science of bridges and other moving machines. Make a catapult! Explore the science of sound engineering for film-making! Learn about and experience hands-on programs provided by Rutgers University-Camden Department of Fine Arts, Burlington County Historical Society, and the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America New Jersey. Bluebird House Workshop

Cost:  $5 per person or $20 per family; plus a $15 material fee for nest box.
Description:  Invite bluebirds into your backyard with a handmade birdhouse. Nearly a century ago, our country almost lost its Eastern bluebird populations — but after many decades, the species is the subject of a great conservation success story. Become part of this bird’s success and build a nest box for your backyard. Adults will learn about the natural history of the Eastern bluebird and build a nest box while children will participate in their own program and make recycled bird feeders. Building materials and tools, not gloves, will be provided. Registration required – 609-303-0704.

Sunday 3/1/15:

Sugar Maple Celebration

Cost:  FREE
Description: An array of activities will occur throughout the two day celebration, such as: Demonstrations of a sawmill cutting Sandy-salvaged trees, accompanied by talks about the importance of sustainable forestry. Sugar Maple Hikes that provides an opportunity for visitors to assist with tree tapping and while learning about sugar maples. New Jersey Maple Syrup Tastings, highlighting Duke Farms Maple Syrup. A limited offering of the property’s own syrup label will be for sale while supplies last. Educational stations regarding the Asian Longhorned Beetle, a pest that destroyed many maple trees in the Northeast. There will also be discussion of the state’s history of combating the beetle and preventive measures to take against the insect. AND A very special menu featuring delicious local food prepared with Duke Farms Maple Syrup, including such items as maple barbecue pulled chicken sandwiches, quinoa with roasted squash and maple dressing, and many maple bakery items.

Meet Revolutionary First Ladies Abigail Adams and Martha Washington

Cost:  $10 (Children 12 and under, free)
Description:  On Sunday, March 1 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House will host an open house and a presentation, beginning at 2:00 p.m., featuring re-enactors portraying First Ladies Abigail Adams and Martha Washington. The Revolutionary First Ladies will discuss their lives during the American Revolution and the role of women in a democracy.
