What’s happening in NJ this weekend? Here are some great free or inexpensive activities to do with your family over the weekend! It’s always nice to have a plan!

Saturday 4/18/15:

WBGO Kids’ She Said, She Says: The History & Status of Women in Jazz

Cost:  FREE
Description:  WBGO FREE Kids Jazz Concert Series presents “She Said, She Says: the history & status of women in Jazz” Celebrate some of the many important achievements of female jazz composers, arrangers, instrumentalists and vocalists from early 20th century through present-day. This season’s five multi-media concert experiences for kids feature The Metta Quintet, the resident ensemble of JazzReach. The free and interactive, hour-long concerts give kids opportunities to learn about a new jazzy theme each Saturday and will take place in Essex County, NJ. Q&A sessions with the artists, small gifts, and a chance to win a prize, are just some of the reasons to come out and join us! Full series runs Saturdays March 28th to May 2nd , calendar at www.wbgo.org/kids . This concert includes free admission to the Newark Museum following the performance The concerts are free and open to the general public. Tickets are handed out in the lobby of each venue on the day of performance only and on a first-come, first-served basis. We cannot guarantee seats prior to each program, except for groups with reservations. Adults must be accompanied by a child.

Jim West’s Dinosaurs

Cost:  Combo tickets are $10/members, $5/non-members
Description: Fossil, the Dinosaur detective, mixes fun and facts in this colossal show inspired by everyone’s favorite prehistoric creatures. Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Stravinsky, and Prokofiev provide the rich musical score. Performances are at 1:30 and 3:30 pm. This performance is part of the Dino Day Family Festival. Combo tickets include admission to museum, festival, and the performance. To purchase tickets for the performance, please call 973-971-3706.

Sunday 4/19/15:

Daffodil Day At Reeves-Reed Arboretum

Cost:  Members free; non-members $10/person, $25/family max
Description:  Join us for a family festival celebrating the arrival of spring and the blooming of thousands of daffodils! There will be games, crafts, entertainment, and an outdoor green market.
Location: Reeves-Reed Arboretum, 165 Hobart Avenue, Summit, NJ

Day At The Fair: Family Festival

Cost:  Free with park admission
Description:  Rain or shine! Bring the whole family to celebrate our down home roots as the site of the New Jersey State Fairgrounds! Tour the park and its historic buildings where activities are sprinkled throughout. Visit the balloon man, relax to musical Dixie Land and Carnival favorites, take part in nostalgic workshops, have your face painted, see a domestic arts demonstration, and enjoy loads of popcorn, cotton candy, hot dogs, and more!
Location:  Grounds For Sculpture, 80 Sculptors Way, Hamilton, NJ
