Thanksgiving is less than 48 hours away, but one of your dinnertime staples may not be what it seems. The FDA announced a massive gravy recall by the Kraft Heinz Company yesterday. Apparently, they mislabeled some 500 cases of Heinz HomeStyle Bistro Au Jus Gravy. This presents a health hazard because the product, mislabeled as Pork Gravy, contains both milk and soy products, potentially deadly allergens. These ingredients are not declared on its label.

Both the FDA and Kraft Heinz warn consumers with soy or dairy allergies to be careful and for all consumers to check their gravy jars, since the mislabeled products appeared on shelves nationwide.

What to Look for on Your Gravy Jar

To see if the products in your home are included in the Heinz gravy recall, check the following information on any jar labelled “Heinz HomeStyle Gravy Pork”:

Product Name: Heinz HomeStyle Gravy: Pork

Packaging: 12 oz. glass jars

“Best By” Date: 12/27/2017

Manufacturer’s Code: MU6F04 4Q

UPC Code: 013000798907

You can look for the “Best By” data and Manufacturer’s Code on the top of the each jar’s lid.

What to Do with the Gravy

Because dairy or soy allergies may be life-threatening, the FDA and Kraft Heinz ask that no one consume the affected products. Instead, consumers may return the jars to the place of purchase. Anyone with further questions or concerns can also contact Kraft Heinz directly at 1-866-572-3808 between 9am and 6pm EST Monday-Friday.
