Dollar Tree purchased the Family Dollar chain back in 2015 for almost 9 billion dollars in hopes to build an empire to compete with Dollar General & Walmart. Things have changed a bit!

600 Rebranded & Closed Stores in 2019

390 Family Dollar stores will close this year and 200 will be branded to Dollar Tree. The CEO believes “We are confident we are taking the appropriate steps to reposition our Family Dollar brand for increasing profitability as business initiatives gain traction in the back half of fiscal 2019,”.

This news came about when the company revealed a net loss of 2.31 billion dollars in the last quarter of 2018.

Dollar Tree Price Adjustment?

Dollar Tree has mentioned they would be looking into pricing some items above $1.00. It is known that people go to Dollar Tree a lot more – mostly out of curiosity to see what is such a low price. While Family Dollar shopping is sometimes done out of necessity. Meaning if they raise the price at Dollar Tree a bit – the same customers will still be walking into the store. We hear they will test the pricing adjustment before they go all out with it.

So be on the lookout for your local Family Dollar to have some killer store closing sales or being turned into a Dollar Tree!
