Zero to Stockpile

Over the next week, I’m going to start preparing you for your new journey into saving money on your groceries. It’s an exciting time for you and your family because if you do this right, the savings are incredible.

I Saved Over $100,000

Remember, I figured out that I saved over $100,000 over the last ten years. Guys! That’s nuts. During that time, I paid off all my debt, bought a new house, finally went on a few vacations, gave my daughter, Nikki, a beautiful, vineyard wedding and so much more. So many things I would have never been able to do before I couponed. I really am Living Rich With Coupons! And I want you to be too.

Finding Space

So, lets get you prepared for this journey. Step by step. Starting with the very first step. Finding a place in your home to store your stockpile.

Now, remember, we don’t need our house to look like a mini mart. Our stockpiles should consist of items that are important to our family. Items that we actually use. And, we only need about 3 months supply of those items. Unlike the TV shows you may have seen, or shopping hauls on social media sites.  Have I mentioned how much I despise those? I really do! The reason being is that these are not real life. Seeing someone’s shopping hauls on social media or TV does not make for a smart shopper. In most cases, it sends you running to the store for items you DO NOT need. Who has time for that? And who wants to store that in their home? Not this girl! And I’m sure you don’t either.

However, with that said, we do need to stock up on things that are important to our families. Most likely that is the basics including:

  • Toilet Paper
  • Paper Towels
  • Shampoo
  • Toothpaste
  • Laundry Detergent
  • and more!

So, I challenge you, right now, to find some space in your home to store these items.

I’m lucky now because I have multiple closets in my basement but I wasn’t always that lucky. My last house only had a very small garage. The garage was so small that you couldn’t even fit a car in there. We had put up a wall in the garage and that is where we stored our stockpile.

Shelves You’ll Love

I’m not saying to build a special room for it but what I am saying is be creative. Look around your house, do you have a closet you could organize to free up space at the top of it? Do you have a room that can spare some space or maybe you have an unfinished basement that you can put up a few shelves. If you are looking for shelf recommendations, we love the Edsal or Muscle Rack Shelves. They go together easily and very sturdy. They come in different sizes which you can see here.

Things to Keep In Mind:

  1. If you have a small family, you don’t need a lot of room. Maybe a top shelf in your linen closet, reorganize your pantry to fit more and some extra space in your bathroom. If you are really tight on space,  paper goods could easily fit under your bed.
  2. I maintain a stockpile for an average size family of 4. I have four shelves that hold all my HBA products, pantry food products and paper goods
  3. Having an extra freezer is a big plus. It doesn’t have to be expensive. For years I had a chest freezer for two reasons. The first is, they weren’t that expensive. The second reason, I didn’t have a lot of space. We kept it in that small garage we had. I’ve seen people place the freezer in a room in their home and cover it with a pretty cloth. Now we keep an upright freezer in our garage.

So that’s your first assignment. Now, go take a look around your house and find some place for your stock of gold 😉
