Homemade Baked Beans Recipe

Making anything from scratch always tastes better than from a can. This recipe is easy to put together, it just takes time for the baking. I love homemade baked beans and I always used to used canned but making them homemade is worth it! Enjoy!

  • 1 lb dried navy beans
  • 8 cups water
  • 6 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • salt and pepper to taste
  1. Soak beans overnight. Drain and discard water.

  2. Put beans in large pan with 8 cups water (or until covered). Bring to boil, cover and reduce heat and let simmer for 2-3 hours until beans are soft.

  3. Drain beans and reserve liquid. In greased casserole dish combine beans with 1 cup of reserved liquid. Add remaining ingredents.

  4. Cover and bake beans for 3-4 hours. Stir beans periodically, add more reserved liquid if they are getting too dry.
