Apple season is here and its always a fun fall activity to pick your own apples. Might not be for everyone to pick their own but this recipe is easy and tasty.. so picking your own is not a necessity! You can enjoy it with store bought apples too 😉 Depending on how sweet you like your apple butter, you can raise or lower the amount of sugar you put in this recipe. Enjoy!
- 12 cooking apples, peeled, cored and sliced (about 14 cups)
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves or allspice (optional)
-
Place all ingredients into a 5-6 quart slow cooker. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours. Stir and continue cooking uncovered for 3 hours (or more) until apples are very tender and most of the liquid has evaporated. Let stand for one hour to cool.
-
Use an immersion blender or food processor to smooth and blend the apples. Ladle apple butter into half pint containers, leaving 1/2 inch space on top. Store in refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or put in freezer for up to a year.
