Syrupy Apple Dumplings

This recipe can be a little involved but the results are delicious!  Enjoy!

Syrupy Apple Dumplings

Ingredients
Dough
Apples / Topping
  • 4-6 apples, pared and sliced
  • 1-2 tsp sugar, or to taste
  • cinnamon to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
Syrup
Instructions
  1. Mix together flour, baking powder, salt and shortening. Add in milk and stir until moistened. Roll dough into 1/4 inch thick, then cut into 6 inch squares. You should have 6 total squares.

  2. Place apples in center of squares. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar to taste. Baste each corner of the square with butter, then bring the opposite corners together and press together. Bring up the other 2 corners and pinch to seal. Place dumplings in greased 9x13 baking dish.

  3. Combine sugar, water and spices in saucepan. Bring to boil and then add butter. Pour syrup over dumplings and sprinkle with sugar.

  4. Bake at 400° for 45-50 mins.
