Reader Shopping Trip – How to Save Money at the Deli

Kim made a trip out to ShopRite in hopes to save money at the deli! She ended up paying $11 for 9.38 pounds of deli meat & Cheese! That’s an awesome deal! Here is what she had to say:

This was the greatest find I’ve had in a long time. I was reading on a web page about “meat and cheese ends” at the deli. These are the end pieces that they can’t fit through the slicer anymore. I’ve seen them sold at the deli before but never thought about buying them myself. So, today I went to ShopRite, and I’ll be honest with you, my heart was pounding and I felt kind of embarrassed as if people would look at me funny when asking them. But what a great idea! The end chunks are the perfect size to cut up into pieces for recipes and I can cube and shred the cheeses. Here is what I got:

Transaction

2.49 lbs of cheese @ 1.99/lb = $4.95 (american, swiss, provolone, mozzarella, munster)

6.83 lbs of meat @ .89/lb = $6.08 (turkey, chicken, ham, pepperoni, sausage, salami, pastrami, liverwurst, bologna)

Total out of pocket = $11.03
